About Me

If your looking to jam...give me a holler...I'd love to mash one with you!
ALSO...I know I have had the same banjo tunes up since 2006 and I am hoping to add some new music soon.
NEWS FLASH.....I am the newest member of the SOUL PICKERS...Check us out at WWW.SOULPICKERS.COM
Weston Stewart found and began playing the banjo in 2003 at the ripe old age of 13. He began his journey with the help and lessons of a very good friend, Scooter Muse. Scooter is a very accomplished banjo player/musician who resides in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Weston has MANY very kind words for his best friend in the world...."THANK YOU! SCOOTER".
Weston later gained a little insight from another great musician, James McKinney. Weston took a few lessons from James. These lessons helped him to see another view of the banjo. As you have probably guessed, banjo playing styles are different and often the player has a different view point to offer so there is something that you can learn from any player. Anyway, James's influence and style offered Weston the opportunity to learn more, which he was greatful to obtain. The latest person to add to Weston's insight has been Randal Morton. Randal's influence has been something Weston has truly enjoyed and again extremely "GREATFUL" to obtain. Weston is very proud to have been mentored by such great musicians.
Weston says that he plays the banjo daily and is usually still up playing at two or three in the morning when not in school. So, it is no wonder that by the age of 15, Weston had won his first bluegrass banjo contest. From there he has grown to become an accomplished player in his own right. He is devoted to his music and is gradually developing his own style of playing. Weston says, "I am open to any type of music...but I sure do love bluegrass".
Weston considers himself a long way from being a "GREAT" banjo player but he has won numerous competitions in and around the Tennessee Valley to include: 1st place at the 2009 Tennessee State Championship in Clarksville, Tennessee (Bluegrass Banjo), 1st place at the 2009 Mississippi State Championship in New Albany, Mississippi (Bluegrass Banjo), 1st place in 2008 at the Uncle Dave Macon Days in Murfreesboro, TN (bluegrass banjo), 1st place at The Harvest Moon Festival 2008 White House, TN, 2nd place 2008 Lincoln County Bluegrass Festival Fayetteville, TN, 2nd place Bluegrass Along the Harpeth 2008 Franklin, TN (bluegrass banjo), 3rd place in 2008 at the 2008 Tennesse State Championships in Clarksville, TN (bluegrass banjo), 1st place in 2006 at Dekalb Fiddlers Competition in Fort Payne, AL (bluegrass banjo) and 2nd place in 2006, 2007 and 2008 at the Tennessee Valley Old Time Fiddlers Convention in Athens, Alabama (bluegrass banjo) not to mention many others. So, if you are ever at a bluegrass competition or festival in or around the Tennessee Valley...look for him. He will more than likely be around with banjo in hand and would love to meet you.
