The video for ’Thinking ’bout Love’ was very kindly done by Tony Hayes, a very talented and well known British instrumental guitarist. Visit Tony at www.myspace.com/tonyhayesguitarist . At this point, I would like to mention that apart from the other great instrumentals on his site, the version of the theme from the film ’Titanic’ has to be listened to, it’s awesome. Thanks Tony and thanks for the CD sleeve design for the album ’Talk to the Face’ - you’re a star!
OK, About Me:
I have been singing semi professionally for over 20 years here in the uk and abroad. I turned professional 4 years ago. My heart has always been in country music although I have fronted rock and blues bands and as you will see when you read on, I still perform covers of various genres when gigging.
My last band, The Lynne Butler Band, was a six piece Bluegrass band based here in the UK for which I was the lead vocalist and which included Gary and Sherryl Payne and Richard Holland - well known musicians on the European bluegrass circuit, as well as Emily Smith and Richard Hampton. They were key in introducing me to Bluegrass Music. Up to that point I hadn’t really listened to it much but was soon hooked.
I brought the element of country into the band and so we had a slightly different sound/approach to others on the circuit but it worked. I have taken it one step further now and like to dabble with putting bluegrass instrumentation to other ’genres’. Quite a few people have commented that I put ’kooky’ into bluegrass music and I’m very flattered - because I myself AM a little kooky. I have never quite moulded to the ’norm’ in anything throughout my life - of which I’m immensly proud of although it has exasperated my mother at times - she now accepts it as a positive lol! As you will hear also from the new album - I like to put humour into my songs too from life experiences which I hope many can related to and at the same time have a good giggle.
Although the Lynne Butler Band get together ocassionally I have performed solo for most of the time at festivals, clubs, and private parties e.g., garden parties and dinner parties (believe it or not, quite a popular evening) performing a varied selection of songs ranging from well known covers to originals and incorporating various genres - blues, rock, 50’s and country and I do like to ’entertain’ the audience, not just play to them, so an evening of fun and laughter can be expected too.
In the last 18 months I have written and produced 3 albums. The third one ’Talk to the Face’ is almost finished. The previous two ’A Little Country, A Little Bluegrass and a Whole Lot of Me’ and ’Music Makers Bluegrass Style’ have been received very well and the former has received quite a bit of airplay particularly on internet radio stations around the world.
All 3 albums were recorded live in the studio and we had a lot of fun doing it even if it was very challenging at times - especially when we all got the giggles over the out-takes and found it difficult to compose ourselves for another take. I personally like to record live because I believe it keeps the essence of the music alive - especially where bluegrass is concerned.
The latest album Talk to the Face has a completely different feel to the previous two. It is a blend of lighthearted, humourous songs and soulful ballads with bluegrass intrumentation.
Music Makers Bluegrass Style is a children’s cd whereby children’s songs, originals and covers, have been put to bluegrass instrumentation - a first of its kind here in the uk and Music Makers is the name of my pre-school music groups that I run on a weekly basis and I’m always introducing the kids to music of different genres as I feel it is important and I also hold regular weekly music sessions for children and adults with learning difficulties often on a one to one or group basis.
I set up my pre-school music groups four years ago on a ’drop-in’ basis. The kids build confidence and learn to express themselves through music and dance and a whole load of instruments (namely drums and tamborine - lots of noise ha! ha!). I also get them doing the limbo (amazingly that is a great confidence builder and lots of fun).
I play the guitar and have recently started playing the Banjo.
When I’m not working I like to spend time with my wonderful 8 year old son and our dog - a beautiful Black Labrador - and just like to chill in general, practice my instruments and spend time with my friends .
