We're not here to be flash, but to the point as much as possible.. TIBET ISSUES ARE ESCALATING This is the Year for Positive Change! We are SFT University of Otago, lower part of the South Island of New Zealand. Formed 1997 on campus in Dunedin thanks to a Nationwide movement. SFT NZ is integrated with us currently, due to the co-ordinator living here, deaths of significant members, children, career paths, finishing degrees, paying off student loans - LIFE IS SHORT! Lets do something meaningful ! Our "age" reflects the the failed uprising of the Tibetan people against the illegal occupation - 10th March 1959. The initial invasion was 1950. Tibetans are mostly very patient!****People are more knowledgeable these days, yet still creating communities from grassroots up is vital. Combining efforts is the way to go!In NZ there's a history of activities such as concerts (THANK YOU EVERYONE!!) hunger strikes, Film nights, cultural and Tibet info evenings, t-shirt/art creations, Tibetan mask making, petitions, art auctions, Tibetan language learning, marches, demonstrations, displays, scaling buildings etc (check out our overflowing cupboards of past actions!), co-ordinating massive nationwide events and local community, we have achieved our aim to promote Tibetan culture and keep the topic of the ongoing Tibetan genocide alive, transforming awareness into action. 1999 was a pivotal year with co-ordinated nationwide concerts and subsequent protests demanding media and Government attention - inquiries at the highest level coming out in our favour. A win for democracy, exposing manipulation of our Government and Police by China's Government. People were shocked to realise how a so called democracy could be coerced in such a way - but at least we put it right. All efforts make a significant impact - whether effects are seen immediately or down the track.***We are here in support of all people doing good work for Tibet, and not only for Tibet - everything is connected. Hats off to all non-violent direct action takers, people from all walks of life caring about how we live, treat each other and surroundings, the impact we can have.If you are in NZ and want to be involved/set up a group at campus/school all it takes is a positive frame of heart/mind and willingness to follow through - Never Give Up. so..
