Sola Rosa is me (Andrew Spraggon), my band... and many other musicial amigos.
I started making music around age 11 playing in school bands etc. From 1983-2003 I played in various Auckland guitar bands including Cicada and Dimmer. In 1998 I bought my first computer and started messing about with samplers and software, by the end of summer 1999 I had enough tracks to release my first EP.
Initially 50 copies of the Starter For 4 EP were pressed up as I thought thats all we would sell.. eventually around 600 were sold in NZ before i decided to stop pressing and move on to the next recording.
Entrance To Skyway was released in 2000. Both EPs were hand made, pressing one CD at a time on a crappy old burner. The Entrance EP was even more popular than previous efforts, going on to win ’Best Independent’ at the student radio b-Net awards, eventually gaining the attention of local Australasian label FMR who signed me up to make my debut album.
Since then, with the help of many friends and whanau I’ve released 3 albums Solarized (2001), Haunted Out-takes (2003) and Moves On (2005).
These days its become more about the band who are deeply involved in the writing, recording and of course gigs and tours. Work is currently under way for album number four, we are hoping for a November 2007 release so stay tuned and watch this space!
