Base FM is Auckland's newest hip-hop, soul, neo and reggae station. Its programme is based on back-to-back two-hour shows presented by New Zealand's best DJ's and talent. The notorious Manuel Bundy – who brings 15 years of musical experience and know-how, created the on-air line-up.
“Our aim is to bring the sound and vibe of hip-hop and soul music to the forefront” says Manuel. “It has long been my dream to programme a radio station dedicated to the music that has influenced me throughout my DJ career” Manuel has won 3 b.net DJ awards in succession as voted by the public and also a remix award for Che Fu's ‘Misty Frequencies'
Base FM Core artists include hip-hop legends such as J Dilla, Dr Dre, A Tribe Called Quest, Pete Rock, The Roots, and Nas along with the soul styling of Erykah Badu, Mary J. Blige, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke and Dwele to name a few. Base FM is dedicated to showcasing local talent such as Rhombus, Opensouls, Solaa, The Black Seeds, Fat Freddy's Drop and many more.
Hip-hop has been dominating the NZ and international charts with a vengeance, highlighting the enormous talent that is just starting to surface in this country. Base FM plans to provide a platform to launch young Kiwis and nurture the culture that is impossible to ignore.
