Hi, I’m DJ Gwaan Gal aka Alicia Slater I began DJing whilst managing a nightclub in Downtown Auckland in the late 1990s. I have played extensively in Melbourne, Australia where I lived for a couple of years. In 2004 I returned to NZ and started the Dancehall gig – “Buss It Upâ€. This has been a regular gig that originated at Galatos Nightclub, it has moved to 4:20, The Rising Sun, Hennessey and it now continues in 2008 at Khuja Lounge.
I was very fortunate to be a participant at the 2005 Red Bull Music Academy (www.redbullmusicacademy.com) in Seattle. I have DJed in North America, England, Australia and New Zealand. I also DJ with FJ under the guise – AK Jugglin Crew
Currently, I am running Buss It Up, DJing on Fleet FM (88.3), interviewing for hip-hop magazine - Back2Basics and I’m Sales Manager for Jugglin' Records - your one stop reggae shop. Jugglin' specialises in Jamaican dancehall and reggae 7".

In 2007 I went to Jamaica and had the fantastic opportunity of visiting Big Ship, 2 Hard and Big Yard Studios. I also got a chance to met; Jeremy Harding, Sean Paul, Arif Cooper, Leftside, Hawkeye, Anthony Red Roze, Wesley Diamond, Little Hero, Assassin, Stephen ‘Genius’ McGregor, Aidonia, Ann Shakes, Munga Honorebel, Nesbeth…These people have all inspired me and I was lucky to interview some of them.
AK Jugglin Crew has a bi-monthly reggae feature in hiphop magazine - Back 2 Basics.
Past issues include interviews with; Jeremy Harding, Stephen ‘Genius’ McGregor, Luciano, Mikey General, Damian ‘Jr Gong’ Marley, Beenie Man, DJ Power, Jnr Reid and Pat Chin.
Whilst in Jamaica the AK Jugglin Crew attended the biggest Jamaican Reggae Festival – Sumfest. We were press for ‘Back 2 Basics’ and conducted interviews. I also took photos for the magazine. I have used my photos of Baby Cham, Movado and Bounty Killa in the ‘Buss It Up’ flyers below.
Highlights for the AK Jugglin Crew for 2008 so far have been Djing at Splore Festival before J-Star, and at Soundsplash Festival before G. Corp.
