About Me

Ashton spent most of her time growing up in Melbourne and stimulated by its diversity and an exposure to all the cultural wealth and the music of this city. Having a dual genetic mix and a tendency to be curious and accepting of other cultures proved to have a positive impact. In 2000 she volunteered her time to PBSfm 106.7 and soon hosted her own overnight - graveyard program - 'The Earthspirit' that continued weekly for 3 years. The program enjoyed a host of live performances (having only experienced 2 shows completely on her own) by local performers and bands alike. Not long before teaming up with Jamie Isaccson and together they produced a live to air program for Channel 31 (community television station) called 'Radio Jam Room' where artists and bands were invited to come onto the program and this was filmed and broadcasted for a season (13 shows) on Channel 31. Having put all of her own musical expression aside during this time, she focused on providing a healthy platform for local music on Earthspirit along with ecological reports and a great weekly feature of a local spoken word artist - George E Bean. Ashton is now taking time to develop her own material and performing regularly. She has also collaborated with The Green Mist and have been enjoying live performances with the band in Tasmania and Melbourne. The story is only just beginning .... and the telling is blissful - keep a watch on this space.

Sounds Like: La Loba is a story of self-generation and the perpetual cycle of birth and death - that we all have to experience. This is an ancient one from Central Mexico. Coming across La Loba has inspired me to look closely at the importance of these stories to our lives today. The Ancients already knew about the harmony that we need to create between ourselves and our world. They have left us clues and ways of seeing, and it baffles me that our modern world chooses to devalue them, and separate them from our consciousness and physical reality. The need to connect with these stories are more important now than ever – considering the destructive way we deal with each other and the Earth – there is a need to connect to something that tries to make sense of all of this since the beginning of time.Creation stories are not just romantic ideals, nor are they nonsense or fables – they offer clues and hold symbols to humanistic instructions. They tell us how we should deal with each other, and the eminent consequences of the outcome of our abuse towards each other, and the Earth. They also resonnate some truth about our own nature, and what we are capable of or not, they speak of the outcome of certain atmospheric circumstances, they speak about the energetics of all that differs or are the same, they teach us about the ways of the birds, plants, insects, animals, other beings, and generally how to deal with the world around us.For me – the importance of these stories have a real place in my life. I want to be able to understand – to a certain degree, everything that I am a part of in order to know where I am going to. The exploration of these stories for me is real work, and I am blessed to live in a place like Australia – where storytelling is such a sacred part of our people of the land – this sacredness that is displayed in all forms of art and expression, and it is one that demands respect – and I have plenty to give.We cannot forget that within the components that form who and what we are - is the Spirit. This very thing that science can never explain – yet it is something that we all feel and know about. We are all – just star dust loaded with consciousness. A spirit bestowed in a mass of body belonging to this third dimensional space – with a beating heart, surging rivers of blood, a pool of emotions, an organically constructed and brilliant computer called brain, plenty of flesh, bones, hair, skin, flouids, chemicals, bacteria, viruses etc. So lets not forget the importance of spirit. I am glad also , that at last, Australia has made a recognition towards the spirit of the people of the land. A recognition that has resulted in an apology for the pain and destruction caused here – now the healing can begin.Nothing heals if all aspects are not considered. This is the healing of the spirit and this is the new chapter of our new millennium, and I only hope that we can all take this example and ascend to the level of beings that can be called – benevolent and evolved.
