Warriorland. It's as much a place that exists somewhere between my psyche and spirit as it is a moniker; a place teeming with images and emotions that words can't quite express...fortunately music can.
My name is Johnny Guerrero, I'm a composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist originally from the heart of the Los Angeles Harbor in Southern California. Growing up I was constantly surrounded and profoundly influenced by the different styles of music pouring out of my own home as well as from the streets of my neighborhood. One day, I discovered a sound that resonated so deeply in my soul that I knew I'd found a frequency that matched my own—it was reggae music.
I began a career in the music industry first as a performer in various bands playing funk, soul, rock, punk and of course reggae. During my time on the road touring nationally and internationally, I was able to hone my songwriting and arranging skills which eventually led me to becoming a producer. After a few years of working with other artists, a burning desire for individual artistic expression lead me to close the doors of my studio and focus on what I can only describe as alchemistic experiments. Cast into the forge were all of my diverse musical proclivities, the tragedies and triumphs of life experience, personal inspiration gleaned from sojourns, films, books, art and nature and finally my own internal, spiritual quest for truth. The end result is deeply personal, meticulously crafted work that I hope proves itself a musical elixir for both the casual and careful listener.
There Will Be Signs... is the first offering from Warriorland. It is an instrumental album comprised entirely of my own creative energies with the notable exception of the quintessential guitar stylings of my compatriot, Reggae legend Tony Chin of the Soul Syndicate Band (Peter Tosh, Dennis Brown, Lee "Scratch" Perry).
