Knowledge of Maori music is sacred but will add things to this section in due course and some of our music tracks soon.
A Waiata is a song. It can be a lament, a love song or a full on epic. The metaphors in the songs the Maori sing teach events, beliefs, and recollections of more ancient members of the tribe and their geneology. It is passed either between two people, or from one generation to the other. Waiata was a principle teaching method in Kura Wananga, the school of sacred knowledge.

BTW ;-) THE MAORI LANGUAGE IS RELATIVELY FUN TO LEARN Give it a go.

At least 600 years before
Christ, it was known to the ancients that a piece of Amber when excited by rubbing would attract straws. Lodestone had the property of drawing iron.
Humboldt saw an Indian child of the Orinoco rubbing the seed of a trailing plant to make it attract the wild cotton; and, perhaps, a prehistoric tribesman of the Baltic or the plains of Sicily found in the yellow stone he had polished the mysterious power of collecting dust. New Zealand Lakes of the Maori People

60 miles north of Wellington is the island of Papaitonga " The Beauty of the South ". The extent of the lake, called " Wawiri ", is approx 125 acres with two islets, was home to the Muaupoko people. At one time there was no bush on the island, only some Karaka trees which were planted by it's residents which may have numbered up to 800 people. The smaller island, which was built entirely by human hands and many canoe loads of shell, soil, and vegetation was called Papawharangi. The scene of a great slaughter during the Maori Wars, vegetation on the island silently conceals it's ghastly history and thousands of human bones.
