I still live across the street from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. Weather is currently:
If you knew me in high school my last name was Vaughn. Most of my friends at that time were, on average, 22+ years old so I didn't have much to do with campus life and chose to graduate midterm (January 1982). I then married the man who had been my boyfriend from the 10th grade on ... he was seven years older than myself. My daughter was born July 2, 1983 so I was a mom very early on. My ex-husband and I decided that we made much better friends (still are) then lifetime companions so we divorced in 1989 after a separation.
I started my mid-life crises at 36 with a lesson in Accelerated Freefall (Skydiving). My current husband was my instructor. It's easy to remember when we met, June 24, 2000, because you never forget the date of your first skydive ... especially when you video tape it! Three months later we got married (we'd both been single for 12 years). If people take away they're initial expectations of their ideal mate and listen instead to their hearts ... they will know when they've met the right person! I wasn't looking and there he was! It was a really great experience - still is! Well ... after a 'D' license in skydiving (222 jumps), both my parents' deaths, and a well paying career as a Contract Specialist it was time for something new someplace different. I had lived in Southern CA all my life (born in San Pedro) and I wanted to get "high" and stay "high" while going back to school (I've always loved the mountains). Flagstaff, AZ is at 7,000 feet and is home to Northern Arizona University (NAU). That should be "high" enough for now, eh? A friend since kindergarten lives up here too so her presence and NAU sealed this as our grounding location. My degree is our next goal - my husband is retired from the movie industry and being a pilot so he's my biggest supporter. We love our life together!
My beautiful daughter (splash - myspace.com/pacificwhiteside) graduated from DeVry with a degree in Biomedical Engineering February 29, 2008. After working at GE Healthcare with the X-Ray group and honing her Engineering expertise toward Mammography she has returned to Southern California from Fort Worth Texas after a very disappointing four months. Her husband has taken a job with a competitor of G.E. back in California so that his wife can find a position in her field, Biomedical Engineering. The discrimination in Texas for a female field engineer could not be overcome before the money dried up. It was a pleasure for them to move back onto their 32ft twin-engine Carver in San Pedro, CA. My husband's beautiful daughter graduated from Middlebury with a degree in Microbiology in May 2007 and has completed her job at Harvard working with Dr. Wayne Morosco in their Cancer Research Center. She and a friend have taken off across the United States on bicycles traveling from Virginia to Venice, CA for charity. I'll keep you posted! She plans to enter medical school upon her return. Okay, MY TURN for school!!! I will receive my B.S. degree in Psychology (Minor in Gerontology) in four to six years - I started attending in January 2008. In the mean time, I have found someone who'll hire this old lady in this college town - the college! I am employed by the Modern Languages Department within the College of Arts & Letters at NAU. These are not only some of the nicest people I've ever met but I also get to work where I go to school - YES! ;-}~
