About Me

I have been performing/composing over a decade. I describe my style of guitar music as contemporary Australian. Drawing on classical, contemporary, folk, rock and jazz genres, I compose my own music as well as performing classical guitar repertoire..I'm loving the sound of open tuning at the moment and doing alot of composing in strange tunings which I forget if I don't write them down! I've produced three cds: "Alegrias" guitar music from Spain, Italy and Latin America, "The Opening"composed by me, performed by Stringstorm( for ten guitars and percussion), and"Continuum",released under the 'Hardrush' label, featuring guitar music from 1500 to the present, including renaissance, baroque, classical, and modern repertoire as well as original works including a guitar duo and a work for guitar and alto flute. Hope to get plenty more inspiration and keep on writing in 2008.

Influences: Trees, clouds,the sky, the ocean, stars, rocks, all lovely things on this lovely planet. Great classical guitarists like John Williams and Julian Bream . My teachers, Tim Kain and Carolyn Kidd in particular. My students. The music of JS Bach and of Beethoven. Rock music: Metallica, Dream Theatre, Opeth, Pink Floyd, Rage against the Machine. Electric guitarists:Steve Vai,Joe Satriani, Jon Petrucci. Acoustic/jazz/folk guitarists: John Mclaughlin, Paco Pena,Al di Meola, Martinez Brothers, Rodrigo and Gabriela, Jose Gonzalez,Michael Hedges. As I live in Australia and my environment is Australian, what I write has an Australian flavour. Whatever the genre if my ears enjoy the sound it will have an influence on my music. I would describe my music as lyrical, ambient, visual.
Sounds Like: Take John Williams, add a dash of Michael Hedges, and a dash of Metallica. Add a good dollop of Milena Cifali(thats me). Best served warm.
