Cacai Nunes

.. ..Born in Recife, Brazil, and raised in Brasilia, Cacai brings his "viola caipira" or 10-srtringed guitar in his own approach through his experience in the fertile environment o Brazil's capital. The "viola caipira" was brought from Portugal to Brazil and quickly became close to the hearts of the local culture and played in many different ways all over the country. This instrument has turned out to rich possibilities and is directely related to Brazil's most popular traditions. In august 2006 Cacai Nunes released his debut album titled “O AVESSO” (portugese for "inside out"). This work features some of his solo performances and also modern arrangments for viola caipira, bass guitar and drums. Original compositions an pieces of brazilian masters such as Pixinguinha, Chiquinha Gonzaga and Dilermando Reis, get a fresh approach on Cacai's interpretation. This work comes to show the great potential of this yet unexplored instrument, breaking through new sounds and pointing new ways to Brazil's musical heritage.
