March 22 MMVII I spent w/ IB & his wife showing him the nature & detail of this mySPACE account. He wishes to express his appreciation 4 the kind words expressed herein . Ib is makin an appearance later this yr in Monster Bash. STAY tuned...! Classic Movie Director-Writer - Ib Melchior talks about Monster Bash Magazine!I read with interest what my friend and colleague Herbert Strock had to say about MONSTER BASH magazine, and I ditto his remarks with the exception that I would include in kudos the excellent article about Herbert by Lawrence Fultz Jr., which I found most enjoyable. Herbert and I worked as writers/directors in that fabulous realm of science fiction movies at a time when we spent imagination rather than dollars. It is refreshing and gratifing to see a magazine such as MONSTER BASH keeping those times alive for a new generation of si-fi fans to experience. As the greeting went in my film THE TIME TRAVELERS so is mine to the creators of MONSTER BASH - "Be well"! Give my regards to Ron Adams and all the talented writers and artists involved in the covers, articles and photo layouts in this wonderful magazine. - Ib Melchior

MANY MADE WORLD FAMOUS by LUMAL: 310.594.8806MOVIES one of first movie JOBS worked THE TIME TRAVELERS http://pimannix.tripod.com/id72.html (1964)--Directed by Ib Melchior. Stars Preston Foster, Philip Carey, Merry Anders, Steve Franken, John Hoyt. Melchior, who claims Irwin Allen swiped his idea for LOST IN SPACE (and did receive a credit in New Line's theatrical remake), directed this interesting science fiction movie using more ambitious than bucks, thanks to the clever special effects work of co-writer David L. Hewitt. While the sets and miniatures aren't anything special, Hewitt used ordinary stage magic to achieve such effects as the removal and replacement of an android's head and the transportation (predating STAR TREK) of Franken from one platform to another. Some of the results are a bit obvious, but achieving the FX work "in camera" must have added a few dollars to the regular shooting budget, which this cheap-looking picture surely needed. On an unnamed college campus, four scientists--stern older Dr. von Steiner (Foster), who wears a monocle so well remember he's German; hot-headed Dr. Connors (Carey); blonde Carol (Anders); and youthful comic relief Danny (Franken), who annoyingly exclaims "Holy McKee!" to express astonishment--accidentally open a time portal to the not-too-distant future--the year 2071, to be exact. Stumbling through, they're shocked to discover that the Earth is a burnt-out wasteland--the result of a nuclear holocaust. Unable to return to the present while chased by mutants (played by various Los Angeles Lakers), the group finds safety in some nearby caves, where they are rescued by some faceless androids. The androids take their 20th-century visitors to their leaders, the last remnants of human civilization, who are building a spaceship to Alpha Centauri V, where they plan to colonize as New Earth. The foursome resigns themselves to their new lives amongst the stars, until they're informed by friendly Council leader Varno (Hoyt) that there's no room for them onboard their spaceship, and that they have less than a month to return to their own time or perish at the hands of the vicious mutants.THE TIME TRAVELERS may be best remembered for its downbeat twist ending, which was quite innovative for the time and was even copied in Hewitt's uncredited remake JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF TIME. Although plagued by cheap production values and a few stiff performances, Melchior displays plenty of imagination and does a nice job getting it on the screen. Cameramen Vilmos Zsigmond and Laszlo Kovacs enliven the many cave sets with bright colors, and the violent finale features a surprising amount of brutality and bloodshed. Also with PLAYBOY Playmate Delores Wells, Joan Woodbury, Dennis Patrick and Forrest J. Ackerman. The bold (often overly so) score is by Richard DeSalle. Released by American-International. From the director of THE ANGRY RED PLANET.I just want to say that I'm a forty-something year old now working for the Mars Program and I think Angry Red Planet is by far the best old sci-fi movie about Mars. For me, personally, I only wish that when we started getting pictures back from the real Mars, that they would have been anywhere near as cool as what that movie showed. Also, I thought it was incredibly cool to recently see a small version of the movie poster on one of my major Mars scientists wall at a NASA center that will remain nameless. I don't want mention his name since he probably would prefer not stay anonymous but I wanted to let the Angry Red Planet's fans know that you have company in some very high places. And you never know....what if life DOES exist on Mars? What if it's still there underground? Anyone seeing the movie would definitely think twice before volunteering for the first expedition. Maybe we better hope that it was just science fiction!
I really appreciate seeing your webpage on it,

Gwynplaine is adopted by a travelling showman and becomes a popular idol. He falls in love with the blind Dea. The king dies, and his evil jester tries to destroy or corrupt Gwynplaine. Unlike in the original story by Victor Hugo, the lovers escape to France. Written by Helen Elsom {[email protected]}In 1690, in England, the nobleman Lord Clancharlie returns from his exile to see his young son. The peer is captured by the cruel King James II and before being killed, he is informed that his beloved son had been sold to the gypsies Comanchicos that carved a permanent grin on his face. The Cormanchicos abandon the boy in the cold snowing winter, and while looking for shelter, he finds a baby hold in the arms of her dead mother. He brings the baby with him and they are welcomed by the philosopher Ursus (Cesare Gravina), who finds that the baby is blind and raises them. Years later, Gwynplaine (Conrad Veidt) becomes a successful clown, and together with the blind Dea (Mary Philbin), they present plays for common people. Gwynplaine and Dea are in love for each other, but he refuses to marry her because of his ridiculous appearance. When the evil jester Barkilphedro (Brandon Hurst) discloses the origin of Gwynplaine, he plots a means to be rewarded by the Queen, jeopardizing the love of Gwynplaine and Dea. Written by Claudio Carvalho, Rio de Janeiro, BrazilTVSciFI=http://scifipedia.scifi.com/index.php/Ib_Melch ior Ib directed the Perry Como Show as the top show in America One of the most popular vocalists between the end of World War II and the rise of rock & roll in the mid-'50s, Perry Como perfected the post-big band approach to pop music by lending his own irresistible laidback singing — influenced by Bing Crosby and Russ Columbo — to the popular hits of the day on radio, TV, and LP. Both his early traditional crooning style plus his later relaxed manner and focus on novelty material were heavily indebted to Bing Crosby, though Como's appeal during the early '50s was virtually unrivalled. During a career spanning more than half a century he recorded exclusively for the RCA Victor label after signing with it in 1943. He sold millions of records for RCA and also pioneered a weekly musical variety television show, which set the standards for the genre and proved to be one of the most successful in television history. His combined success on television and popular recordings was not matched by any other artist of the time.A popular television performer and recording artist, Perry Como produced numerous hit records with record sales so high the label literally stopped counting at Como's behest. His weekly television shows and seasonal specials were broadcast throughout the world and his popularity seemingly had no geographical or language boundaries. He was equally at ease in live performance and in the confines of a recording studio. His appeal spanned generations and he was widely respected for both his professional standards and the conduct in his personal life. In the official RCA Records Billboard Magazine memorial, his life was summed up in these few words: "50 years of music and a life well lived. An example to all." Combining a gentle voice with a pleasant personality, Como celebrated in life and in song romantic love and lifelong fidelity. He parlayed these values and his ability to express them in song into one of the most successful careers in twentieth-century popular entertainment.in a style developed w/ Perry & Frank Sinatracreated "Lost In Space" TALKS ABOUT IB =http://www.lesliemartinson.com/CMTB/022.htmlBOOKS60's SciFi conventions

IB entertained him on a visit to NY, he maintains an honest affection 4 the royal family to this day

from the start accepted that the king has no real political power. With his family, he instead modernised the monarchy, adapting it to the representative government and its democratic ways. By virtue of his bluff, informal manner and obvious joy in his family, Frederik IX became the exponent of post-war popular values without jeopardising the dignity and distance inherent in the nature of monarchy. His eldest daughter, Margrethe II, has managed to continue and develop this line, so that the royal house and the monarchy today are more popular than ever. The deaths of Frederik IX in 1972 and Queen Ingrid in 2000 therefore caused genuine national mourning.Saxo Grammaticus Saxo Grammaticus (estimated. 1150 - 1220) was a Danish medieval historian of whose life practically nothing is known. The sixteen books of Danish history of this time, known as the Gesta Danorum, are attributed to him, and also contribute our principal evidence of his own existence. We know he was a "follower" of Archbishop Absalon, which probably means he worked in the Archbishop’s administration; his exact status is not determined. He might have been a clerk. In Absalon’s will, one clericus named Saxo is forgiven a debt of two and a half silver marks and is enjoined to return two manuscripts he has borrowed, to Sorø monastery. From a dozen Saxos or comments on Saxo, found in Danish sources from this timeframe or later, this is the only Saxo comment to be generally accepted to be about the Saxo Grammaticus. However there is no evidence that definitely proves that this comment in Absalon’s will is about our Saxo Grammaticus. We read in the preface of Gesta Danorum Saxo’s own words that his father and grandfather both served under King Valdemar I as warriors and that he himself would like to serve King Valdemar II, though in a more spiritual way. These few lines just listed are the only concrete information that exists about Saxo Grammaticus. It is thought he was born on Zealand, as later sources claim. His elegant Latin and Roman knowledge, used in Gesta Danorum, makes it nearly certain that he was educated outside of Denmark, maybe in one of the big church-schools in France.Saxo Grammaticus was not his real name. He received the appellation Grammaticus, the Latin word for a teacher of letters, in the Compendium Saxonis of Chronica Jutensis, around 1342, to express delight in his use of words. With the printed press publication of Christiern Pedersen's version of Gesta Danorum, the term Grammaticus has stuck to Saxo as being part of his name.
