Upon relocating to Chaparral in 1994, we were shocked to see so many homeless, neglected, unwanted animals. Within days of moving into our home, little starving puppies, kittens and even pot bellied pigs appeared in our yard. We spayed/neutered and placed as many as we could into new, permanent homes. But many turned out to be simply unwanted. These stayed with us. Over just a short period of time, our property turned into a haven for animals. Once people realized we loved animals, the dumping increased and we would wake up to new animals on our property on an almost daily basis. One day, a visitor commented on how well all the animals were getting along. He said he'd never seen so many different species living together in *perfect harmony.*
The name seemed fitting and we continued rescuing privately. In late 1999, after trying unsucessfully to rescue two starving horses, Perfect Harmony was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non profit corporation. Soon after, we filed for IRS recognition, which was granted. Perfect Harmony Animal Rescue and Sanctuary was officially open for business. We were naive in believing people are more willing to donate to a registered non profit instead of a private rescue. Chaparral is a very low income, very poor community with too many animals. Not many people can afford to help us in our efforts. Therefor, most of the expenses are paid "out of pocket."
But we need everybody's help to continue what we do. You can help us save more lives by donating. Even the smallest donations go a long way and are greatly appreciated. We and the animals thank you for your support. Donations are tax-deductible.
Perfect Harmony is a very small organization, concentrating primarily on older and/or *disabled* horses.
