About Me

New Horses

These horses are all relatively new, some are still in the process of being evaluated. However, many of them are already available for adoption and have adoption fees listed. Please inquire about a specific horse if you are interested in more details, adoption fee info if not listed, etc.
"Serafina"-10 year old mustang mare, 14.2 hands
This gal is absolutely stunning! If you have always wanted an andalusion, here is your chance for a look-alike! She has a beautiful trot....and that mane!!! She is currently being evaluated, to see if she has any training. She is very smart...

"Shoni" - 7 year old BLM mustang gelding, 14.3 hands
This boy is nice and stout, with a gorgeous spanish trot. He is a great riding horse, and has a fantastic people oriented personality. He has some calcification of his right hind fetlock joint due to hoof neglect, but it does not affect his movement, and he is sound.

"Jake" - 18+ hand Belgian Draft gelding, 10 years old
This guy is HUGE! He is broke to drive and ride, and is currently in training. He lost an eye, but is still a great riding horse, and beautiful.

"Tessa"-12 year old Arabian mare, 14.2 hands
This girl is very nice looking, with a refined head, long legs, and beautiful classic Arab mane and tail. She is in training. She is broke to ride, but needs an experienced rider. She was found as a stray in Denver, then put through a sale where she would have gone to the killers....

"Shadow" - 21 year old bay roan registered RARE
Spanish Mustang (SMR/Brislawn) mare
This poor girl was all skin and bones and could barely walk when she came in with a case of founder... She has put on weight quickly, and is more comfortable on her feet now. She is registered, and a very sweet, polite girl

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Adoptable Horses

A foal at the kill buyer's feedlot

All of our rescue horses are rescued from slaughter. We purchase them in order to save their lives, and give them a second chance. They come from auction, if they are headed to the killers, or are pulled directly from the kill buyer's feedlots. Many people share the common misconception that because they are slaughter bound, there "must be something wrong with them." This is simply not true... I would say that around 80% of the horses shipped to slaughter are perfectly sound and healthy. They simply had the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time... Kill buyers purchase any horse that is "cheap" at auction, that they can make a profit on by selling to slaughter.

Percheron mare at the feedlots

Until legislation is passed to end this cruel industry, America's horses will continue to be in danger... Slaughter prices fluctuate throughout the year, which means that our costs to rescue these horses fluctuate as well. We must purchase all of our rescues to save them, and the cost varies depending on the horse, and its weight. It is not uncommon for us to have to spend upwards of $900 to rescue a geriatric, lame draft horse, that we can adopt out for only a fraction of that cost, and never recoup even a small portion of what we have invested such as costly vet bills, feed, hoofcare, and special supplements. Some of our horses are adopted quickly, some stay for a year or more before they find the perfect home, and some become lifetime residents. We are constantly getting in a wide variety of horses, from foals, to trained riding horses, drafts, donkeys, mules, and lots of young prospects, even registered Quarter Horses. Your adoption donation enables us to recoup a small portion of our costs invested in each horse, and allows the rescue to continue saving lives by funding hay, feed, vet bills, and farrier expenses which are quite expensive, considering we usually house 35-40 rescue horses at a time. We are in the process of our 501(c)(3) nonprofit filing, but currently operate entirely out of pocket. We run entirely off of adoption fees at this point. Although donations are not currenlty tax deductible, they are very much needed and appreciated!

Please feel free to call or e-mail if you have any questions pertaining to our adoption policies and Contract. For the safety of our rescue horses, we currently maintain title of the adopted horse for one year (just like the BLM does with its adopted mustangs.)

*** Many of the horses on the "New Arrivals" page are ready for adoption as well ***

You will notice that some of the adoption fees have been raised, to help offset our winter feed costs. Unfortunately, we lost our winter supply of hay after it was sold out from under us, and our feed costs have literally doubled overnight. We are currently feeding so many older horses, that this is a neccessity to help fund their care. 10/31/06

Under Saddle/Trained Riding Horses

"Georgie" - 8 year old BLM Mustang gelding
This boy has movie star good looks and a personality to match! He is a very stout guy, weighing in at 1300 pounds standing only 14.2 hands high! He is a great saddle horse, whether you want to use him in the mountains, or in the sressage ring. $2,300

"Lady Jane" -10 year-old Clydesdale Mare, 16.2 hands
This pretty gal is one of our draft ambassadors, and is being sold as a benefit to the rescue. She is a fantastic trail and arena horse, with beautiful movement. Please inquire for more details.

Adopted!!!
"Bailey" - 6 year old Clydesdale Cross gelding
This pretty boy is a fantastic mover, and very flashy. He needs a sensitive and experienced rider, as he is very smart and does not do well with a rider who makes mistakes. Please call for more details to see if he would be a match for you... $1500

"Daisy" - 12 year-old Percheron mare, 16 hands
Daisy needs an experienced and confident rider that she will respect. She has a lot of training, but needs a firm hand. She is not a naughty girl, but will definitely test someone who is not assertive with her. $1500

"Darby" - 3 year old buckskin QH gelding
This youngster is one of the most mellow horses I have ever been around. He is sweet as can be, and very gentle. He has an old scar on his hind canon bone that is purely cosmetic, and does not affect his soundness. He has been started under saddle, and is still growing at 15.1 hands.
$900

"Jericho" - 5 year old grade QH gelding
This little gelding is so sweet.... he is very calm, mellow, and loves people. He is under saddle, and a great all around horse. He would be a great family horse, and anyone can ride him. He has recovered from a sun sensitivy brought on by alfalfa hay, where his poor little white socks got burnt to a crisp! This will not be a problem if he is kept on grass hay.

"Azalea"

-4 year-old paint mare
This little filly is petite, and cute as a button at around 14.2 hands. She is under saddle, and has a wonderful people oriented personality, and unflappable temperament. She is a fantastic all around family horse, and is kid and husband safe. Don’t let this gem get away! $1300

"Chantilly Lace"
-4 year-old QH mare
This mare is very people oriented, and always wants attention. She is very friendly, and sweet. She is a very fancy mover, and a big stout, correctly built mare. She is being started under saddle. Adoption fee increases with additional training. $1500

Younger Prospects/Ready to Start

"Anna" - 4 year-old registered Quarter Horse Mare, 14.3
Very sweet, a bit shy, very sensitive mare. Very well bred for cow work. Pedigree includes on the top side: Right on Poco, Poco Bueno Stripe, Right on Tivio, Doc's able Mable. On the bottom side: Texana Royal Tears, Waggoner Royal, Faila Play, Royal King, Freckles Lady 81, Counterplay, Faila Rebel. Has not been started.

"Tommy" - 3 year-old Welsh Pony Stud
This little guy had no handling when he came in, and is now halterbroke and leading well. He is a very fast learner, and will continue with his training as long as he is here. He is around 13 hands. Adoption fee will increase with training.

$350

" Gunner" - 3 year-old red roan/paint stud
This boy was bred for Rodeo, but is way too sweet, and loves attention too much to be a "wild bronc"! He is awaiting castration, and has had some ground work done. Great personality, very huggable teddy bear kind of guy...

Older Horses/Kids Horses

"Gus" - 35++ year old red mule gelding
This sweet old man is enjoying his golden years. He is supposedly a "Tennesee Jumping Mule" that is taught to jump fences if you lay a jacket across for coonhunting.... At his dignified age we have not asked him to do a demo! He is remarkably sound, and barely creaky for his age. He would be a fantastic kids/toddler's "pony" , and would be a great pasture companion as well. He also has a beuatiful voice, and sounds remarkably like a walrus.... :) $300

"Penny" - 25+ year old appaloosa pony mare, 14 hands
NEW PHOTOS COMING SOON! Since her arrival as a very skinny horse, she has put on tons of weight! This spry old gal has no idea she is on the older side! She is completely sound, and not at all creaky with age. She still gallops around the yard with her tail up in the air like a 2 year old! She is very sweet, well mannered, and a great size for kids to ride.
$300

"Cocoa" - 25 year old Quarterhorse/Morgan Mare, 15 hands
This sweet lady is an excellent horse to learn on! She is very polite and well mannered, but still has some get up and go. She has an arthritic knee, but is fine for riders under 100 pounds, and great for children.
$300

Pasture Companions

Stella - 13 year old Percheron/Belgian Draft mare
Stella was one of our very first rescues! She is the sweetest girl, and is very mellow. She would be an excellent pasture companion to a lonely horse. She has an arthritic knee and cannot be ridden. She stands around 16.2 hands. $600

"Daphne" - 7 year old Dutch Warmblood mare
Daphne is a very nice mare, who is not rideable due to stringhalt in both hind legs. She is very happy as a pasture ornament, and would be a great buddy for another horse. She is about 17.1 hands tall. $700

"Stanley" - 25++ year-old Arab Cross Gelding
I saw this guy at the auction yards several weeks in a row, and just fell in love with his sweet personality, and eager expression every time someone walked up to his pen... He was a stray found locally, and held at the auction for several weeks. When nobody claimed him, he was put through the weekly sale, and was headed to the kill buyer's. He is now happily spending his golden years munching gourmet alfalfa, and hanging out in the "geriatric paddock" with a cushy stall. He is partially blind in one eye, and has some ring bone, but gets around great. He is available for adoption as pasture companion, or would be able to pack around little kids for light "pony rides". $300
