About Me

.. *WARNING*
Some of the images of horses on this page are graphic in nature and should be viewed by adults only!

Healing For Horses Rescue and Sanctuary is not a working rescue (yet!), it is only in the formative planning stage at this point in time. I have created this page as a way to gather resources, information and to share with and encourage the warriors (angels) who are rescuing, fostering and adopting horses right now. I am not seeking donations to Healing For Horses, but may from time to time have an incentive for you to help other rescues through secure donations on this page. There are SO many horses/rescues throughout this country in dire and desperate need RIGHT NOW, and I encourage you to support them so that more can be saved from feedlots/slaughterhouses and the unbearable torture that awaits them. There are many legitimate rescues out there (and in here) that desperately need your help, so please have a look around...
Make sure you do a thorough background check on any given rescue. There are entities on Myspace that claim to rescue/rehabilitate horses who do not in fact rescue any animals but simply take advantage of those whose hearts are moved by the plight of the slaughterbound horses. Ask questions, find out their physical location and what county they can be verified through and check their non-profit status.
In May 2007, I discovered my true calling in life....to establish a horse rescue and sanctuary. There is no doubt in my mind that it is what I was born to do. There is such a great need out there. Throughout the years I have been given SO much from these magnificent creatures, and I want the chance to give something back. It will be tough and at times (daily I'm sure) heartbreaking, but it will be the most rewarding 'work' I will ever do.
Please take a few moments to read "Who I am" on my blog
This page is for those interested in the welfare of horses and other animals. Bulletins/repostings are an integral and important part of this community, therefore I respectfully decline requests from bands and other individuals, etc. who simply wish to have a forum to promote themselves. The horses come first! Thank you for understanding.

DO YOU DARE WATCH THIS VIDEO....ALL THE WAY THROUGH?

Who eats horses?

The biggest consumers of horsemeat are France, Italy, Belgium, and Japan. Horsemeat, considered a delicacy, is used as an alternative to beef. This hurts the US beef industry. Japan regulates the amount of American beef imported into the country, but these regulations are not imposed on American horse meat. Eating horses has never been an accepted part of American culture.

What’s the big deal anyway?

Both the transport of horses to slaughter and the slaughter itself is inhumane. Equipment used in the transport of horses to slaughter is designed for cows. Horses often end up trampled and injured, even dead, while being transported 24 hours or more with no food, water, or rest. The equipment used to stun the horse before being slaughtered is also made for cows. Horses are often slaughtered while still consciously alive (2,500 or more horses met their fate this way last year alone).

The following is a beautiful video. It shows some of the success stories, what we all fight for.....enjoy!

This a breath takingly moving and beautiful horse rescue video from the Netherlands (stranded horse herd NOT slaughterbound horses).

This dog was part of an "art" exhibit...it was tethered and slowly starved to death while people wandered by. Costa Rican 'artist' (demon) Guillermo Habacuc Vargas paid children to capture, taunt and abuse this poor baby.
In that event, (in which the dog died) he was chosen to represent his country in the "Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008". It is a sad day when killing an innocent animal is celebrated as 'art'. Shame on all of you who witnessed this crime and did nothing!!!!!
