I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I'm an American Bison, commonly known as a buffalo. I was rescued when I was three days old and raised on a bottle by my human mother at Welcome Home Barnyard Sanctuary. www.welcomehomebarn.com I have lots of friends: Elvis the pig, Bindi the horse, Louie the goat and Freddy the sheep among about 200 others who also live here. My favorite foods (other than my bottles) are bananas and sunflower seeds! Culturally, I come from a long line of once revered and then persecuted people. The Native Americans respected and worshiped me and in return, I provided them with most of the things they needed to survive. The Anglo-European settlers, however, came with no respect...they felt that animals were unimportant and even a nuisance. They nearly wiped me off the planet. Fortunately, our people made a comeback and some of us live comfortable lives. Humans still eat our people but there is very little reverence and respect left for what the animals give. Sad, isn't it? -------------------------------------------------------Don't miss my video in which Larry Running Turtle Salazar sings me a traditional Lakota song right after he performed a blessing ceremony and changed my name from Tatanka to Tatanka Wakan!------------------------------------------------------ -----You can also see more about me and my friends at our sanctuary web page, we're all very special!---------------------------------------------------- -------www.welcomehomebarn.com

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Everyone who is interested in helping our animal spirit friends. I love making new friends and all are welcome. My purpose is not to provide food or shelter but to provide people with an opportunity to get to know my kind, up close and personal. We are each special and deserving of respect and humane treatment. I also get new brothers and sisters at the sanctuary all of the time...there are so many farm animals in need of medical care, good food, clean water, safe shelter, and a caring home. That's why they come to Welcome Home Barnyard Sanctuary...those of them lucky enough to make it here. I'd love to have another bison to call a friend...or even a bull or steer...but all news friends are welcome!
