I simply believe they are worth it. I live in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. My dogs are all found strays. Where I live the animal problem is severe. I started finding injured and abandonded animals, and through much effort rehabilitated and rehomed them with success. The difficultes I faced, and the lessons in love the dogs taught have awoken me to their truth. Overpopulated, abused and abandoned, there are numerous strays in Philly and the shelters always seem to be full. If these animals are not finding injury and death on the streets, they are being "humanely" euthanized in a shelter. They are domesticated martyrs in our human world, victims of the apathy and ignorance of the humans who domesticated them. A vast majority of these animals are intelligent, capable, loving loyal friends.The love in their hearts is far too vauable to waste. I have learned of the magnitude of their situation. In Philadelphia Alone last year over 13,000 animals were euthanized. Many of these animals had the potential to be wonderful companions or pets, but they simply had nowhere to go. In our social order, animal welfare lays on the bottom of the list. I see it as the most basic and pressing issue that needs to be dealt with. The basic idea of fair and compassionate treatment for innocent beings is truly the foundation of the better world many of us wish to see. I choose not to be desensitized- A very unfair reality exists for our animal friends. Not in some foriegn land on a television screen...right here in our town...in your town. Life and love are lost needlessly.Once animals are brought to the shelter, they have a very limited chance at a new life. They will most likely be euthanized. There is a concious descision that you can make- you can choose not to be desensitized. You CAN do something to help.LEFT FOR DEAD/TOO AWESOME FOR ME TO GIVE UP:
Genza is a Cane Corso Male, 100+ lbs, Found chained to a fence and left for dead in North Philly. When I found him I tried hard to find him a suitable home, but there were no takers.I did my best to remain dilligent, but who wanted a big Cane Corso Mastiff with no ears? To make matters worse, my dogs loved him, he proved himelf to be trainable and obedient, loving and loyal.
