THE CAMBRIA 6

About Me

"Philadelphia Animal Care and Control Association(P.A.C.C.A.)received a call from the police on 1/15/2007. The police served a warrant for someone and when they went inside the home, they discovered 20 dogs and puppies. PACCA picked up the dogs and brought them back to the shelter. The dogs were underweight when they came to us. One dog was pregnant. Many of the dogs were undersocialized-they were not aggressive, just did not know how to react to leashes or humans. PACCA was forced to hold the dogs under court custody while the trial was going on. Administrators petitioned the courts many times for the release of the dogs, but were always told that we had to wait until the trial ended. It took almost a year. Finally, on December 21, 2007, PACCA was given custody of the dogs. They had been caged for almost one year-never seeing the outside- and finally we have the opportunity to release them. -Tara Schernecke Field Services Manager Philadelphia Animal Care and Control Association

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Victims of criminal circumstance and an unyielding, uncompassionate legal process, these dogs have been confined to individual kennels for over a year, through no fault of their own. Seized from a home where the owner was breeding dogs for the purpose of fighting but had never been fought. In an effort to rehabilitate and place these dogs, after extensive evaluation, there has been tremendous effort on the part of volunteers and staff to work with these dogs- as a few have literally grown up in the shelter. Reaching out to the rescue community, we seek to find adequate placement for these dogs, to give them a chance at life they had previously been denied. Volunteers have been using positive reenforcement to train the dogs to sit, leash walk and improve understanding of boundaries, rules and limits to assist the dogs in interacting with other dogs and adjustment to life out of the shelter. Their lives are constantly at stake, as they are living in a high volume shelter with an ever pressing need for space. This Myspace profile is their voice.
