So who the heck are we anyway?
Since its creation in late 2002, Creative Guy Publishing has become a recognized and regular member of the small press and eBook publishing community. CGP has tried to push the envelope of ePublishing, and has been instrumental in promoting the cause of eBooks, actively participating and donating graphics and bandwidth to causes such as "Read an eBook Week," and so on.
In its humble beginnings, CGP started as an experiment with some of the Swamp Magazine authors into the weird world of eBooks -- which, as serious writers, we of course sneered at at the time -- but it seemed like a viable way to put out the ever ignored novella (which as a form CGP has a certain fondness for), and include some fun things that you could do in an e-way. (We don't sneer anymore.) We are now also publishing novellas in chapbook and audio formats.
To the mainstream, eBooks are still considered a niche market. The eBook industry's growth has been stymied by the big boy publishers with $$$ in their eyes (we understand the need to make a buck, but you can't expect an eBook to fetch the same price as a hardback) and by the industry's own accessibility to a broader playing field (resulting in a number of eBooks of less than impressive quality). But the industry IS growing, thanks to a loyal following of eBook patrons, and small press publishers like CGP who are dedicated to providing quality, affordable literature.
With all of this in mind, CGP no longer focuses on the "E-xtra" format we had been looking for, because when all is said and done, it is still the story that matters. Supporting materials are still welcome in any submissions of course, as we are still VERY interested in alternative forms of literature, which is really limited only by the author's imagination. A straightforward example? A completely hyperlinked novel/novella perhaps?
We have also redefined ourselves based on what we have learned -- we no longer are seeking role-playing materials, and as mentioned, are not strictly looking for "e-xtras" in our titles. We still can and do provide web design services, but this is not our focus.
