PROLOGUE
TEN YEARS AGO…
The man frantically threw back the hood
of his black cloak and lifted the crying
baby from the wooden crib. Closing his
eyes, he brought the baby close, unable
to look down at the mother’s cold, accusing
stare. He ran from the nursery, struggling
to ignore the family smiling at him from the
photos that floated against every wall he
passed, as he made his way into the living
room. A shudder ran over him as though a
cold, dark shadow had just taken over the
house. The man threw the front door open
and paused. With one glance back, he
knew—when the night’s harsh wind slapped
his skin—that he had just abandoned everything
he had ever stood for.
No time to run.
Heart thundering, he....

I love writing, reading and gazing into art
(my absolute FAVORITE artist is Edward
Hopper--genius). I also love Salvador
Dali and M.C. Escher. I love looking at
photos or great magazine shots and listening
to the stories they have to tell. I'm an
avid animal lover who is vehemently against
hunting. I have loved interior design since
I could remember, and spent a great deal of
time redecorating my room while growing up;
good for my mom that she loves it too. Then
there's all the cooking I do, and the traveling
(LOVELOVELOVE TRAVELING), and gritty movies.
TV is a big thing for me (Sci-fantasy shows,
legal shows, comedy, and drama). Oh yeah,
and who can forget video games? What a great
way to take out your everyday frustrations.
There's also computers and giving people advice.
And the king of interests that tantalize my buds
is CHOCOLATE!
I'd like to meet:
Kick back a spell and check out my official website: C. L. FREIRE . Also take a gander at my blog here for a taste of the madness that is me. So grab some coffee, or tea, or whatever floats your creative boat. Enjoy, and feel free to leave your thoughts in your wake, either here or on C. L. FREIRE . I always love hearing from my friends, both new and old:)
I love meeting and talking to other writers. They are all so passionate about it and the convos are usually so interesting. As for who I'd like to meet...come on, do you really have to ask? I WANT TO MEET ALL MY FRIENDS:)
Then there are people who make me laugh and make me think about the world, who can laugh with me at the world we think about.
Oh, and Tom Welling just so I can sit and stare and make him uncomfortable enough that he has to call security and throw me out of the studio and I can say "I was escorted out by security who was called by Tom Welling cuz I was staring at him.
I would also love to meet the celebrities I have immense respect for--like J. K. Rowling (a tremendous inspiration). And Oprah Winfrey (for what she does everyday), Gordon Ramsay (for what he does for the culinary world), Angelina Jolie (for what she does as a Goodwill Ambassador), and Madonna (for what she's done for the music world).
AND NOW, A MOMENT TO HONOR ONE OF THE GREATEST AUTHORS I'VE COME ACROSS HERE AND IN LIFE. I GIVE YOU...
SABRINA TRUMP-LESPRIT

Friends you can not live without
MY TOP GEMS - ADD THEM! YOU WON'T EVER REGRET IT, I PROMISE YOU:)
Music:
I lovelovelove atmospheric music, hence
the one you're being subjected to right
now. Subjected is actually not the word
I would use, even though I did (sorry).
I meant to say, hence the one you are being
graced with right now. I love this track,
even though it is from a very disturbing
flick.
Enter irony--My favorite group is "Disturbed".
Oh my god, that singer's voice! Then there's
God Smack and Drowning Pool. I also love Bon Jovi,
Chris Daughtry (the best thing ever to hit
American Idol (bar none!).
80's music is awesome and most 50's music as
well, even though the 50's are well before my
time. I also love rock music and anything else
that makes my heart thunder!
Movies:
My favorite movies of all time are Sin City
and Dark City. I can't help it, I love cities
and dark, gritty movies dripping with atmosphere.
Sin City had me hooked in the first second
(the opening). I knew then that it would always
hold a special place in my heart. And, oh man...when
I heard the back story as to how the opening was
filmed in ten hours and used to hook all the actors,
all of whom demanded they be a part of Sin City
after seeing the opening scene..Wow! A giant KUDOS
to Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez--two masters
of their art!
As for Dark City, I lovelovelove the color palette
they chose for the film. It gives it such a
(no pun intended) dark atmosphere that is utterly
engulfing. I'm also a huge Hitchcock fan, loving
Rear View and Dial M for Murder.
And then there are the comedy flicks. My favorite
comedic actor by far is Chris Tucker. I mean, what
that man can do with his eyes is inhuman and always
so funny.
Television:
My favorite drama of all time is Babylon 5.
JMS is a true genius for Babylon 5--a master.
I stand back in awe of JMS. Oh, and my, my, my,
what about Joss Whedon???? And let's not overlook
The OC--by far one of, if not "the" best teen
drama of all time. I mean the character arcs in
that show were amazing.
But again, I stand in awe of the master--JMS.
He is untouchable when it comes to character
arcs. I can only hope my character arcs will
be half as compelling. I'm also a huge fan of
Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel (hence
Joss Whedon), Battlestar Gallactica, DR. Who,
Torchwood, Star Trek, Lois and Clark (by far
the best Lois and Clark casting EVER! Their
chemistry was unbelievable).
I am an obsessed fan of Desperate housewives,
Sex in the City, and Reality shows (especially
about cops and people making fools of themselves
for money--always a laugh riot), and I love Lucy
too. No, I don't spend my time watching TV. You
gotta love TIVO. Ah, technology--a 21st century
lover's best friend. Well, as you can see, the
list goes on and on.
Books:
I love J. K. Rowling (what a world she created!)
And Hans Christian Anderson, whose writing is
so filled with symbolism.
I'm also a HUGE fan of Young Adult books,
and consider myself lucky to have so many great
friends writing for that genre--a genre I hope to be
a part of one day.
I also like Anne Rice. Neil Gaiman is phenomenal;
I loved Neverwhere. I'm currently reading Artemis
Fowl, by Eoin Colfer, another great author. I also
enjoy true crime books and anything about law enforcement
and the "sharks" some may need the day Lady Luck takes
a day off.
Heroes:
I know this sounds cheesy, but I would have to
say it's my HUSBAND. He is without a
doubt the smartest person I've ever met. A
great writer as well, he inspires me to be
the best I can be and helps me put out the
best work I can. He always makes me laugh,
and with a single word he can brighten
my day.
When I see the image of his face or his
smile, I smile and laugh to myself, depending
on the images I see. We've been together for
17 years now, and I can't imagine my life
without him in it.
ON THE WRITING FRONT:
J. K. Rowling is another person I so very
much admire. Her strength and accomplishments
are truly inspiring to authors who dream about
the level of success she has achieved. And then
there is Cornelia Funke, whose beautiful prose
are like a fluid song that compels you to read on.
