Hey there - It's Caroline, Taylor and Hobson.
We are three friends who graduated from Hotchkiss and are writing a new series of novels on life at a fictional boarding school, called Wellington.
When we were at school, we loved reading boarding school stories or watching boarding school films, evaluating their authenticity. We loved Outside Providence, and Catcher in the Rye for classic portrayals of ennui and mischief and friendship. Igby Goes Down is a dirty, dark facet of some boarding school experiences. Dead Poets Society is a dated romanticized, manic take on the place.
And now, it's our turn to take you behind the ivy walls at a modern day New England boarding school. Like actual elite boarding schools, The Upper Class Novels are a strange animal. They're as snooty as Gossip Girls or Laguna Beach--full of Burberry umbrellas and Ben Silver cufflinks and Chanel nail polish and Adidas sneakers, and as dark as Less Than Zero--stained with whiskey and cigarette smoke, with drops of blood, with sweat. The heroines and heroes screw up, like the girls in Thirteen, or like Holden in Catcher in the Rye, or Igby. They love and hate each other, hurt and heal each other, as they pass across the misty green grounds of Wellington. They get magnificently lost, as lost as Alice in Wonderland as she runs in her white dress through small rooms and deep jungles, past evil queens and grinning cats. And then they get mercifully found, by you.
So, we hope you enjoy our books. We welcome you to evaluate their authenticity and share your comments or even your own high school stories.
