"Got Milkweed?"

About Me

Here's what I'd love to see on my library media center computers when my students log on!I am the mother of two boys and one girl, all grown. I am a grandmother of four (soon to be five) wonderful boys. I am happily married to a wonderful man.I am a high school librarian specializing in Young Adult Literature, Research, and Information Technology.I have the best possible job in that I absolutely love what I do and I get paid to do it!You can check out my Website, which is a work in progess: LibraryLady: Your Personal Online Librarian! Libraryldy's Monarch Butterfly Site

Favorite Web Sites Of

Monarch Watch A great place to begin if you are really seriously considering getting to know these beautiful creatures! The Journey North: Monarch Migration An outstanding resource for anyone interested in the Monarch. This site has video clips of a Monarch coming out of its chrysalis, information on migration patterns, and lesson plans for teachers. There's a fascinating audio clip of Dr. Brower talking about what goes on inside the chrysalis after the caterpillar has gone through its metamorphosis. It truly is an amazing process. Wonderful resource!IWin.com I frequently play a game called WordScape - great word game! Despair.com The place to get Demotivated! This is actually a very amusing site. I would love to get some of the posters to hang in my library at school. Ms. Dewey's Website Just ask this sexy librarian anything you want and she'll help you find it!

Book I am currently reading:

by Bram Stoker. AAAAHHHH! I'm back in my car and reading everyday again. I love, love, love, being able to consume my books while I drive. At the moment, I'm really GETTING MY FREAK ON! Truly - Dracula is an absolutely amazing read. I wasn't sure I'd like it - but I've made a promise to myself to alternate my books - a classic every other book. Dracula is graphic, bloody, gorey, scary, creepy - I mean come on....some guy eats live flies, live spiders, and even live birds! There's blood sucking and blood curdling suspense. I've been sucked in - sorry about the pun! Anyway - I highly recommend this fabulous book! Have I mentioned how much I love recorded books? Maybe I should quit my library job and work for them...nahhh - I'm having too much fun grossing out my library kids! Check out Recorded Books.com if you are interested in books on CD or Tape.

My Interests

"Books are dangerous! Be careful which ones you choose, they might actually make you THINK!"

My Summer Reading:

These are books I've already read beginning in June 2007. The list will grow as I add more books that I've finished reading.

I love to READ (of course)! I enjoy listening to books on tape - never wasting one minute in my car. I get most of my reading done there.I also enjoy playing my piano and harp. In the summer, I spend most of my time raising Monarch Butterflies for tagging and releasing in the Fall. Check out my Butterfly Raising last summer. I'm getting ready to do it all again. I can't wait for my Monarchs to come home.

I'd like to meet:

James Taylor , Sam Waterston , and Dr. Lincoln BrowerThe Librarian in the following Video clip is me. I don't look like me because I'm all made up and in costume. But it really is me and I have to deal with men like this EVERY DAY! Sheesh! What's a librarian to do? I mean, REALLY!?!? :-)

..

Music:

James Taylor, Poco, Pure Prairie League, Loggins and Messina, Doobie Brothers, Simon and Garfunkle, Chicago, BeeGees, Michael Buble - there are too many to list and, I admit, I'm a bit stuck in the 70s - not that I mind!My parents gave me the opportunity to enjoy the oldies as well - I grew up watching Sing Along with Mitch Miller, the Andy Williams Show, and the Carpenters. I still love listening to Andy Williams, Harry Belafonte, Ray Coniff Singers, The Carpenters, Nat King Cole, The New Seekers, etc. The only music I really don't care for is heavy metal and vulgar RAP music. I can do without the obscenities - just don't like to put that karma into my mood. I want music to nourish and uplift me - not bring me down and anger me. I began studying the piano at the age of 5. I decided at 16 to pick up the guitar and had a friend teach me some basic chords. At the age of 49, I began studying the harp and am involved in a group called, Beginning in the Middle. The love of music has definitely enriched my life. I am thankful for parents who felt music was important and who insisted upon daily practice. It's a habit I've never let go.

Movies:

The Scarlet Pimpernel (the one with Anthony Andrews and Jane Seymour), Wizard of Oz, A High Wind in Jamaica, Gone With the Wind, Anne of Green Gables, Anne of A Thousand Days, A Man for All Seasons, A Lion in Winter (original version please),To Kill a Mockingbird, The NeverEnding Story, A Tale of Two Cities, any movies put out by Masterpiece Theatre and BBC.I love "period" films, foreign films (mostly french & chinese). My husband claims I like anything with subtitles - it would be nice if he came with subtitles. I like psychological thrillers - no slasher films though. I enjoy crime drama such as Godfather and most recently, The Departed.Among my favorite actors are - Sir Anthony Hopkins, Ben Kingsley, Jeremy Irons, Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, Anthony Andrews, Gregory Peck, Rex Harrison, Katharine Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, Megan Follows, and Jane Seymour.

Television:

House, CSI, Law & Order - the original is the best-Sex and the City, Curb your Enthusiam, The Office, Southpark, Daily Show, Steven Colbert, and Jeopardy.I love HBO - Rome, Big Love, Deadwood, and SopranosI am looking forward to the Showtime series, The Tudors.

Books:

I love books - especially books that have been banned! I am always so curious as to what the fuss is all about. Seriously, though, I really haven't met many books I haven't liked.I think books are here to stay - though there are those who think they are becoming obsolete with all the new technologies. But I can't imagine a world where I couldn't curl up with my pillow and a good book held by my own two hands. I love the feel of a book in my hands - the turning of the pages and the smell of new as well as the old musty treasures on my bookshelves. I suppose my favorite authors are - Pearl Buck, F.Scott Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Austen, Bronte, Roald Dahl, Thomas Hardy, D.H. Lawrence, most of the classics.Past favorites are: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (all-time favorite bildungsroman and I'd take it with me on that elusive desert island.); Little Women; Anne of Green Gables; The Once and Future King; Mysts of Avalon; Gone With the Wind; Jaws; The Kristin Lavransdatter trilogy; just to name a few.New favs are: Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, The Kite Runner, The Secret Life of Bees, Bee Season, and anything by Author Jodi Picoult.

The joys of the delete button!

Ok...well, this really isn't about the delete button - but in a way it is.  I've always enoyed - at least when I'm in the right mood - to get rid of stuff.  It creates in me a sense of sati...
