An economically disadvantaged teen works in a hospital to earn money for college. After his best friend ends up in critical condition at the hospital, he sets out to solve the mystery of what happened to him.

*A boy yearning to go to college and become a doctor…

*A best friend comatose after attending a party…

*A police chief investigating…

*A broken dad stuck in a low paying job and his past…

*A girlfriend with a secret…

Clay is 17 and works in a hospital as an orderly. He comes from a poor family, and he wants to go to college and med school. His best friend is rich and is planning on going to Duke to one day become a doctor. Their bond is the love of cross country biking and the trip they have been planning all of their lives. A girl comes along and causes distrust and jealousy.

One evening Clay leaves work and goes to Joey’s house to make things right. He finds his friend hallucinating. A fight occurs and suddenly Joey is in the hospital comatose. Clay is blamed.

Now Clay must find out what happened to Joey. He has to save himself, but most of all he wants to save Joey, and the hours tick away as Joey’s condition worsens.

Reviews and Praise for Blood BrothersDirect, honest language and raw emotions will grab readers by the heart. Horn Book Guide Reviews

Clay Gardener, respected hospital employee and loyal but conflicted friend, joins the ranks of veteran, engaging young adult characters such as Chris Crutcher’s Louie Banks and S. E. Hinton’s PonyBoy... This reviewer cannot wait for the writer’s next effort. 5Q. VOYA

This compelling story, told in diary entries that cover hours and days, never loses the pace as Clay races to discover what happened during Joey’s last day. The antidrug message is never didactic, and the story will grab readers from the first sentence. Kirkus
