Johanna Gonzalez also known as "Johee" was born in June 26, 1987 in Miami Fl. She was raised in Little Havana. It was rough for her when she was young. She was born with a birth defect called "Spina Bifida". Not a lot of people know about this condition. After 10 days of being born doctors had to put a special shunt in her head to stop fluid coming from the spine and in the brain. She had major surgery on her feet. Two surgeries on her left foot, and three on her right foot. She was in and out of the hospital as a young girl.
She had to use a walker and a hip brace to get her balance as she learned how to walk. Her parents prayed to see her ride a bike. At age 9, she was walking with leg braces and on her own.. She finally learned how to ride a bike when doctors told her parents that she wouldnt be able to do it. There was nothing going wrong with her health until she had to go back to the hospital at age 13. She had terrible pain in her stomach one night. She thought it had something to do with her shunt that went from her head to her stomach. But she was wrong when doctors told her it was her appendix. It had to be taken out and she got better after that.
A few months later she took the worst news she could ever get. Her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was so hard for her knowing that her mom was always there for her. Her mom had to get surgery, go through chemotherapy, and radiation. There was a point where she got so upset watching her mom suffering. That was the point where she started to write poetry. She had noone to talk to so that was her therapy. Her mom is now a cancer survivor and she is grateful for having her mom by her side. Ate age 15, she really got passionate about poetry and music itself.
When she graduated from high school at age 17, she decided to do what she loved. She started Miami Dade College to major in Biology. She was so passionate about music so she decided to take piano and private singing lessons in her first college year. This challege was a great way to get her out of her shell. She was a timid person in her school years but this changed everything. She started performing poetry at Miami Dade College and it was a great experience to speak out her emotions. It was the first time that she felt people were hearing her out. " I was real shy back then..and Its the only thing I regret in my life..I know I lost a lot of opportunities tryinig to open myself with other people..But through these last few years Ive learned that I shouldnt give a fuck what people think...Some of my family members would put me down and it just made the whole situation worse".
She has written songs for some producers. She is also in the process of writing a poetry book to publish very soon " I love music and I love to sing but I would rather be the writer than the artist" Johee said. " She hopes she can one day write songs for big artists. "Right now, I went through my last surgery...I hope it will be the last one.. I had my left foot straightened and it went better than expected. I just need to relax at home for now."Johee went through surgery on June 19, 2007 and it was a decision she made last year.. She is happy with her results.
Now she is currently going to school and her associates degree is in progress.
