About Me

CINNAMON AIR
She flies to a place where day has no trace
She hears stars, hears them far out in space
She illuminates dark behind the Sun
Where black holes are endless, makes air taste like cinnamon
She’s my angel, you won’t see her walking down the street
She’s my angel, she makes the sidewalk skip a beat
Don’t cross her or you’ll be done, like gravity come undone
She doesn’t give me empathy, not even a small bit of sympathy
She doesn’t care what I think, not a lick what I drink
She cries fire, she cries light
Builds planets burning bright, twirls Aurora’s colors out of sight
She’s my angel, you won’t see her walking down the street
She’s my angel, she makes the sidewalk skip a beat
Don’t cross her or you’ll be done, like gravity come undone
She wears a cross, prays at dawn
She plants flowers, then pulls her curtains tight drawn
She hangs jewels on her birthday suit
Laughs as she befriends Pan practicing his flute
BRIDGE
She’s my angel—a little spot for my simple mind
She’s my angel— cinnamon air that makes me blind
She’s my angel—she’s so fine, going to take those wings, fold them into mine
She’s my angel—(sigh) cinnamon air that makes me blind
She’s my angel, you won’t see her walking down the street
She’s my angel, she makes the sidewalk skip a beat
Don’t cross her or you’ll be done, like gravity come undone

"Behind the Scenes"

"Moondust"
SOMETHING THAT WAS KINDA COOL AND FUN. For the time my profile and my 'pop poetry' piece Bottled was the 'pick of the week' on this page, it was no. 25 on myspace a'capella (above Coolio) and no. 1 for two weeks in Washington D.C.. I have to admit, that was kinda cool and fun.
POETRY COMMENTS. So many of my fantasticly talented indie musician friends have left me comments on my 'original' myspace pages' poetry blogs (my no. 1 friend here) found at myspace.com/janicekephart. Here are a few of them:

You've got serious skills. Nice gaelic touch with the shenanigans ;o)" - Eoin Harrington (San Francisco, via Ireland)
"Janice - we're so fortunate to know someone like u. ... Somehow your poems always fit my mood. If you ever make a book, it would make a great daily read. Insight on every page. How can you lose?" Melody Gardot (Philadelphia)

“Trip Poetry” Defined

Trip Poetry uses special effect electronica sound and groove to transform imagery developed in words and voice by the poet-performer to vivid, enticing sound scapes. Trip poetry is exactly what it says it is— word performance groove.

Open your mind to your senses.

Open yours senses to your mind.

Trip Poetry will take you where you never expected to go... and you won’t want to return.

Track “Rain” in Context

Rain is just one piece of a thematic series of poems written by Janice K to entice the listener/reader out of stereotypical thinking of the physical elements of our world based on the limits of our physical senses and our minds.

In these poems—Cloud, Moon, Rain, Sun, Wind and World- Janice K takes us where we cannot go in reality. So come fall into Rain, taste Cloud or inhale Moon and its tangy essence.

J. Scott G. and Kevin Gutierrez take Janice K’s word performance of Rain (the track included here) and drench it with trippy sound backdrop and punctuation, outstanding quality, creative production and mix.

Janice K’s Trip Poetry. Find your senses in her trip poetry. Find your humanity. Find yourself.
About J. Scott G. / Kevin Gutierrez production/mix

J. Scott G. has a decade in the electronica music biz with credits that include Madonna, Johnny Cash, Frank Sinatra, America, Seal, Peter Gabriel, David Bowie, Crystal Method and citings in Rolling Stone, major film licensing, and a near Grammy nomination.

Kevin Gutierrez’s Assembly Line Studios is a highly respected D.C. based recording studio with a background in metal and electronica. Gutierrez has worked on projects with LA based production team Deepsky (Madonna, Seal, David Bowie, Paul Oakenfold and Crystal Method).

JANICE'S BITTY BIO.

In late 2006 Janice K was invited to record, and six months later she was in the top 25 in the myspace a’cappella charts and no. 1 in D.C. for a week. In the fall of 2007, she was ranked 3rd of 240 and then 2nd of 50 in an international online spoken word competition.

She went to Duke University undergrad and Villanova Law School.

Ever since she began her policy work in the late 1990s in Washington DC, nothing is more important to her professionally than the sense she has for protecting her country, and convincing people of what America can and should be-- democratic, yet secure. If we approach government right, we don't have to give anything up for security, but only gain as individuals and as a country.

Her work is doing well enough that she gets to travel and do speaking engagements, sometimes in London and other places. She finds that fun, interesting, mind expanding.

POETRY ORIGINS.She started writing poetry about two and a half ago after a long hiatus. It is her personal outlet for dealing with immense personal changes in a positive way. She jokes with her friends that it is much more productive and a heck of alot cheaper than therapy.

Janice had never shared any poetry with anyone outside of close personal friends before myspace. Her first reluctant postings were in December 2005. In spring 2006, she started featuring my subscribing and other independent musicians with her poetry on her blog. She's been thrilled with the response in both helping promote these worthy musicians and the support she's received for my writing.

She later was invited to record-- quite as a fluke-- by a musician friend while in London in August 2006. Slowly she has gathered together the beginnings of spoken word taken to a different level-- with the cadence of music, true music and production from professionals, a delivery that will never be appropriate for 'slam', and what she hopes is a warmth and humanity all can groove to.

Janice K's message to you

I hope my poetry lifts you a bit, makes you think a bit, and maybe brings a smile to your face. I have fun here. I find excellent talent here. It all means something to me, to expand my world in sight and sound.

Welcome.

INFLUENCES.

independence
a smile on my face
a spring in my step
a desire to make you catch your breath

Sounds Like: a bit of you
a bit of me
a bit of Madonna-- oh please!!!
