About Me

Eve Williams is a singer and songwriter from County Down in Northern Ireland. Her music is greatly influenced by a jazz, blues and rock, with a hint of the Celtic music of her home. After being classically trained and performing for 5 years with Belfast Philharmonic Society, Eve received a prestigious Arts Council Grant to study voice at Oxenfoord Summer School. Eve then began to perform jazz with Lucy's Jazz Band in the North Coast and Limavady Alternative Jazz Festival. She was also a member of the Symbolics. Eve has also appeared in filmscore and in folk ensembles. She often collaborates with the blues pianist, Darren Matthews. Eve, Darren and band headlined the 'Deep River' concert in Ards Arts Centre in August 2004.Eve is noted for her technical virtuosity and the diversity of material she has performed, being as at home with opera or oratorio as disco, jazz and folk. Her voice spans an impressive range of nearly four octaves, which gives her much melodic scope as a singer-songwriter. She currently teaches voice.Eve's skills as a songwriter are currently displayed in her self-titled EP being sold in aid of Jigsaw Northern Ireland, an organisation founded by Eve's late father to benefit isolated people with disabilities and their carers. In 2007, Eve received an Honorable Mention in the 14th Annual Billboard Songwriting Contest. To join Eve's mailing list email [email protected] .

Band Members: Darren Matthews - keyboards, plus a bit of co-writing Steven McKnight, Victor Henriquez,Ian McNeill - guitar Dave Robinson, Darren matthews - bass Jason Gordon, Paul Westwood - drums and percussion Trevor Donaghy- drums Paula Williams - backing vocals
Influences: Many and varied !!! My inspirations would be God, and my late father (who introduced me to Cream) and grandfather (who taught me self-expression through music).Musically speaking, I own around 3000 CDs of every imaginable genre. The first music I ever encountered was traditional Irish music which I would have been made to sing from my infancy at family gatherings, the soundtrack to 'Grease'and Abba. I'm a passionate jazz devotee, a singer of the blues and some-one who has a compartment in her soul especially for opera. My favourite bands include Cream, the Divine Comedy, Muse, Radiohead and much much more. My favourite composers include Mendelsohn, Mahler, Verdi, Beethoven and Vaughan Williams. Oh, and Tchaikovsky. I love Ella Fitgerald, Peggy Lee, Chet Baker, Miles Davis and Nat King Cole. Listening to Etta James sing gospel is another of my life's pleasures. Some of my favourite albums include Kosheen's 'Kokopelli', Robert Randolph and the Family Band's 'Live at the Wetlands', Radiohead's 'The Bends' and at the moment Fiona Apple's'Extraordinary Machine'.Ofcourse, ask me on another day and I'll give you completely different lists.
Sounds Like: Nobody else you can think of, really.

Belfast Rape Crisis Centre

I'd much rather people gave a couple of quid to Belfast Rape Crisis and Sexual Abuse Centre than gave me a Christmas present. Not that I don't appreciate all the presents I've gotten over the years!
