Anita Jardine has been penning songs since her teens and is acknowledged by her friends to be a legend in her living room.Her heartfelt singing and classically rooted piano playing have led to comparisons with Joni Mitchell, Nico, Ricky Lee Jones and Attila the Hun.She writes songs of love, lust, loneliness and social diseases.Contraband began in a haunt called Smugglers in the Deep South (Hastings!), where Anita had gained confidence performing solo at well-supported songwriters events.She met Aideen, the fiddle player, on the treadmill of pleasure in the summer of 2005 and was stunned by her playing and effortless ability to weave magical melodies around her own spiky songs.Aideen is known for her fast jigs, slow ballads and sweet accompaniments, they jammed and began to play local gigs as a duo.Early last year Anita found Joe, the bass player, in the Street- no really- it's a bar, and he added his sensitive and seductive bass lines to complete the trio.Together they are unique, undefinable and irreverent.
