Karin at the Bluebird in Nashville, TN April 2007
Born in Japan - Raised in NY - Living in Nashville. Leaving New York was hard but it wasn't a huge culture shock since I moved to downtown Nashville in the Music Row neighborhood. When people ask me how I like Nashville I tell them I feel as if I have finally come home. I love music and I love horses. Nashville has both! I began singing in New York at Festivals, Restaurants, Jones Beach and even prisons (as a visitor). Anyway not long after I started singing I began writing. In 1999 I was approached by an independent producer to record my first full length project. We recorded 7 of my original songs before the label went bust. That first CD was sent to Nashville and from there we released one single to national radio. It broke top 40 with Power Source Contemporary Christian Chart! Not long after that I was invited to Nashville for a showcase. As soon as I set my feet in this amazing city I knew I was finally home! Three months later I was living here!Upon moving to town I had to settle in - buy a house, adopt some kids, start a business, finish a degree. . .and of course pursue my music dream. I met lots of great writers and started down the road of co-writing. I must say it is something I really enjoy. I have helped create some incredible music and have made some real close friends in the process. I love the closeness of friends and family and I have been especially impressed with the songwriting community here in Nashville! Kudos to all of my colleagues! You really help to make a girl feel very welcome. Now that I am in full swing with my writing I am hoping to play out more and put a band together soon (hint, hint, hint to all you musicians). I am also working on developing my style a bit more - a mix of country, rock, blues and gospel. Want to hear some of my latest stuff? Come on down and monkey. . . the third Saturday of each month my good friend and co-writer Bill DiLuigi and I host a writer's night called Monkey in a Round. We hang at the Frothy Monkey on 12 th Ave South in Nashville from 7-9 with some of our amazingly talented musical friends. You can go to www.monkeyinaround.org for more info and directions. Well that's the music side. . .As for the horses. . . I ride as often as I can at a friend's farm in Bellevue. It is my idea of heaven! I have my own favorite - a chestnut Tennessee Walker named Day Star and I try to ride every week when I am in town. I go out of town a lot . . . traveling for music or coordinating the building of orphanages for a non profit organization called Building the Kingdom.I am a gregarian (is that a word? if not I just coined it). I love people! Music is one amazing way to connect with lots of people from all walks of life. It is a precious gift and I am thankful everyday that I have the privilege to do what I love!Music has allowed me to travel the world - check out the map for all the places I have visited and let me know if you'd like me to come to your area!
