To Strengthen, Preserve and promote the Emerging and Independent Canadian Voice

About Me

Publicbroadcasting.ca strives to be a source of Canadian arts, culture, media and sometimes politics. The focus is on the emerging and independent and the content is almost exclusively and unapologetically Canadian.
The home page is dominated by the publicbroadcasting.ca blog - a group blog that welcomes new, volunteer, contributors from all over Canada. The site receives no funding or grants from any public or private organizations, and no ad revenue. The writers are free to write what they like about anything they like. The only editorial rule is that they can't do anything that is actually illegal.
the Notice Board is for posting upcoming events, new releases, calls for assistance, job postings (paid or volunteer), casting calls etc., by Canadian artists or their representatives, cultural organizations, non-profits and educational institutions. If you fall into one of these categories and would like to submit something, send it to [email protected] - at this point the notice board has not been abused by spammers or people posting unrelated material. If this becomes a problem the notice board will be moderated and notices will have to be approved
the Campaings section of the site provides information about ongoing publicbroadcasting.ca campaigns such as
  • the R3TV Campaign : the goal of which is to convince the CBC to give Radio 3 and by extension Canadian independent music a show on the CBC
  • the Canadian Renaissance Project is a campaign to give a tremendous boost to the arts in Canada by changing the way they are taxed - for artists and consumers alike.
  • the Friends of the CBC is for people who support, in fact or in principle, Canada's national public broadcaster and would like to see it strong, independent and above all "distinctively Canadian"

  • the Pubcasters section lists public broadcasters, including CBC stations, and campus and community radio from every corner of Canada - most of which you can listen to, or watch online.
The Blogs section brings you the latest headlines from some of Canada's best blogs on a variety of topics.
the Podcasts is like a Canadian program guide for podcasts, showing you the latest episodes from some of Canada's best podcasts
the Band Blogs : Bring you the latest headlines from blogs posted by some of Canada's most talented recording artists - get your music news directly from the source.
the Galleries are just that mini-galleries that allow you to preview the work of talented Canadian visual artists.
the News - brings you the latest news headlines and opinion from a variety of sources including the CBC, the Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star, Walrus Magazine, Eye Weekly and some of Canada's top political bloggers.
the Links section helps you find still more great Canadian arts, entertainment, culture and more...
the MP3 section hosts free, podsafe MP3 downloads so that you can sample some emerging Canadian musical talent.
the Arts Blogs come directly from the blogs of Canadian arts organizations, venues, cooperatives, publishers, record labels, theatre companies etc.,
