About Me

..Canada has many faces. It is a trading nation-one of the world's richest markets, multicultural-a country that encourages immigration, technologically advanced, and an excellent vacation destination. Canada has vast natural resources, a supportive government, an educated and skilled work force, a strong domestic market, diverse arts and culture, a sound economy, a well developed infrastructure and much more. What makes Canada different? From the time the first French and British explorers interacted with Canada's aboriginal population, Canadians have banded together to build a unique nation. The influences of geography and climate, coupled with Canada's cultural diversity, have created a vibrant country where Canadians enjoy a superior standard of living and overall quality of life. Before the British and French settled Canada, the country was inhabited by aboriginal groups including North American Indians and Inuit. Among these groups, many still speak one of the more than 50 remaining Aboriginal languages and live on reserves or in settlements. Through immigration, many other nationalities are represented. Among the larger ethnic groups to reside in Canada are German, Italian, Ukrainian, Dutch, Polish, Chinese, South Asian, Caribbean, Portuguese and Scandinavian, making Canada a truly multicultural country. Because Canada is such a big country, an efficient transportation network is essential. Canadians have overcome enormous natural barriers including rugged mountain ranges, vast areas of tundra and almost impenetrable forests. Climate has also been a factor. In many areas, waterways are open only during the summer, and in winter snow removal is paramount. Despite these obstacles, Canada has developed a highly sophisticated transportation system. Roads and railway tracks connect most major cities. Canada has also pioneered the use of long-distance pipelines for transporting oil, gas and other commodities. Passenger systems, such as subways, buses or commuter rail lines, exist in every major city. Most centres are near modern airports with links to international air services. A specialized marine industry thrives on both coasts and through the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway system. There is much to discover in Canada. From the great outdoors to sophisticated, friendly cities with excellent hotels, fine restaurants, theatres, art galleries and museums, Canada is a country for touring. It offers many natural wonders such as lakes and rivers, mountains and forests, and national parks and glaciers. Above all, Canadians extend visitors a warm welcome and offer unsurpassed hospitality.
