Eiyn Sof (“eye” with an N, “soft” without the T) is Melissa Boraski, a 28 year old Toronto-based mother of two who wrote, recorded and began promoting the project during her kids’ naptimes.After having performed since childhood and starting her first rock band at the age of 14, Melissa rather suddenly adopted a religious lifestyle in her mid-teens. During that time she was a vocalist on 5 internationally distributed gospel records (Vineyard Music). However, Boraski left the church in her early 20’s to freely pursue more exciting creative projects.Since becoming active in the Toronto and surrounding area music scene, she’s played in a number of groups- Scarboro Aquarium Club, The Real Cool Killers, Sadoceanspacebear, The Z Rays, The Real Priscillas, The Symptoms, and Dark Bird. With these bands or solo as Ivy Pallas, Melissa has shared the stage with Wilco, The Constantines, Snailhouse, Woolly Leaves, Sandro Perri, Blue Rodeo, and of course many others. All the while, Boraski was writing and experimenting with a new approach to music-making.An urge to swim deeper and away from mainly guitar-oriented music led to a series of experimental 3“ CDR’s: ‘Eiyn Sof’ and ‘Eiyn Sof: Level Two’ (UnderSee Recordings). What began as an outlet for exploration into synthesized soundscapes has gradually and instinctively fused with her pop and vocal roots, making for a sound that Melissa describes as a dialogue between indie pop and the more visceral elements of electronic music; atmospheric and often dreamy.Eiyn Sof is currently putting the finishing touches on ‘Streams’, the first non-3” CDR release (Spring’s Skull).Joining Melissa live onstage as Eiyn Sof are Kevin Lynn (Holy Fuck, King Cobb Steelie), Roan Bateman (Dark Bird), Alex Olsen (Marlowe, Ookpik), Stephanie Lipinski (The FlamingoGo’s), and Rob Michalchuk (Quieky, Food), and their arsenal of synthesizers and guitars.I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
