First Weekend Club

Canada's Ticket To Great Film

About Me

First Weekend Club, an organization dedicated to promoting Canadian film, has launched a new and exciting initiative, THE DVD CLUB, bringing Canadians even closer to Canadian film in a fun and engaging way.
Just think of it as a book club, but for movies. And it's FREE! Each month a new DVD will be selected and announced. Participants will have a chance to either rent or buy the DVD of the Month and enjoy it in the comfort of their home. Then, throughout the month they will have a chance to join in on an ongoing moderated discussion on our Forum about the film, sharing thoughts, reviews and questions with fellow community of film lovers throughout the month, posting as little or as much as they'd like.DVD Club Perks
There are many reasons to participate in the DVD Club, here are some:
A chance to discover some great Canadian films (oldies and newbies, alike) An opportunity to connect with other First Weekend Club members across Canada Q&As with special guests such as filmmakers, talent and film experts (based on suggestions from our members provided through a recent survey) DVD Club members will also receive special codes that will give them certain benefits such as discounts on DVD purchases, rentals and much more! Thanks to sponsors such as the amazing Videomatica.ca (coming soon) Additionally, to make things REALLY fun, each month, members will have an opportunity to earn "karma points" by posting reviews, entering mini-contests on the forum and completing other "missions". Various prizes will be awarded to those who have earned the most points each month. 'Snow Cake' -- Our First Month's Movie!
In Marc Evans' award-winning film, Alex (Alan Rickman), a quiet, brooding man struggles to come to terms with a fatal car crash in which he played a part. He comes to stay in a small Canadian town with Linda (Sigourney Weaver), a highly functioning autistic woman whose life has also been touched by tragedy. As they each attempt to deal with their losses in their own distinct ways, Alan strikes up a relationship with Maggie (Carrie-Anne Moss) and finds himself experiencing long–buried depths of emotion. Also stars Emily Hampshire, Mark McKinney, and Callum Keith Rennie.
The DVD Club Forum
Three time Genie nominee and Gemini winner Emily Hampshire, who turns in a highly spirited performance as Sigourney Weaver's daughter in "Snow Cake" will be joining as a special guest and answering questions on the Forum. Callum Keith Rennie will also join us online! Other guests TBA.
Future titles will be announced on the second Friday of each month.

Membership Benefits

Click anywhere on the text below to join!

First Weekend Club is a free, cross-Canada film club dedicated to building audiences and appreciation for Canadian films and talent. As our membership is the driving force of the organization, it is important that we win your trust. As such, we will only send you film alerts by email, letting you know about the best Canadian films which have been previewed by our jury and selected as "a First Weekend Club supported film." Our members are also given an opportunity to voice their opinion about what films we should get behind. Following the Toronto International Film Festival and the Vancouver International Film Festival we will send our members a list of Canadian films that they can ‘vote’ for. These votes will then determine which films we will organize events around or do other cool activities to help promote its release. By joining First Weekend Club as a member for FREE you will you will be exposed to a number of great benefits, all listed below. These benefits are in line with our mission, to inform you about, involve you in and get you excited to see Canadian Films! Currently, First Weekend Club has chapters operating in Vancouver, Victoria, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. Our Head Office is stationed in North Vancouver at the North Shore Film Studios.

First Weekend Club is FREE, and once you are on the band-wagon you will become part of a rapidly growing community that is culturally important, fun, hip, sexy, exciting, glamorous, and just plain cool. (Not bad, considering that the only cost to members is entering their e-mail address, to be honored privately.)

As a member, you will be the first to hear about the great line-ups of Canadian Films that are being released in theatres, and of course will have priority for free ticket giveaways, and will be informed about the Canadian Film opening weekend details including parties, special events, contests and volunteer opportunities.

Our newsletter keeps you in the loop, and brings you all-access to the Canadian Film industry news, contests, links to trailers and also an insider look at our artists as we celebrate the fine achievements of Canadian Film talent through feature articles and interviews.

First Weekend club benefits include: opportunities to enter cool contests to win movie passes, unique dining experiences, luxury stays in five star hotels and a number of other great give-aways. Some membership-faves from the past have been special screenings with filmmakers and stars, VIP invitations to premier launch parties, access to our VIP online forum and chat with Canadian filmmakers and stars·
