About Me

Emily Williams Cellist, composer and vocalist uses electronics and various machines to process and affect her acoustic and amplified Cello.Compositions consisting of repetition, Cello percussion, vocals and various diverse pedals and effects are multi-layered creating works that have been described as both haunting and transcendent to lyrical and alternative.Born in Melbourne Australia, Emily started violin at 7 and later changed to Cello at 9. Studying at the VCA Secondary School for jazz and improvised voice while studying classical Cello and later taking a serious interest in composition, experimental music and Film music.Emily has composed music for ABCTV Sunday Arts program, Channel 31's Film Review show 'The Picture House', short films, short feature films and documentaries with screenings at ACMI Cinema, and National and International film festivals. Emily has written arrangements for strings and small orchestras and chamber groups, for rock, folk, experimental and jazz groups also.Previously, Emily has sung and performed Cello in heavy metal bands and rock groups, jazz and blues outfits to classical Cello quintets and improvised ensembles with her current experimental project 'Come on Frank' where the unity of sound design and technology with the dynamics and timber of the Cello and its capabilities are being explored. 'Come on Frank' was performed earlier this year with 'The Future of Classical Music'.2006 has seen Emily perform at Federation Square main stage, The Arts Centre with AusMusic, a 19 Century Goldmine in Maldon, The Golden Key Society, Cockatoo Island in Sydney, 'Light Fantastic' Fashion event, The Melbourne Fringe Festival with her own production of 'Light and Cello', also with 'The future of classical music', Boite composers festival, art exhibitions and gallery openings and live film music accompaniment, sound design and effects. Opening for acts such as 'FourPlay', 'Gauche', Anthony Lyons, Doug Gibson, & 'Bucketrider', and collaborating with Chris Rainier, Koshowko, The boy who spoke clouds, and Lara O'Reilly, with live to air radio performances and interviews with RRR's Delivery and Symbiosis, FBi, 2Ser, 3BO, ABC National and ABC Central. 2007 has also seen Emily open acts for New Yorks Kaki King, Fire in the Night Festival, and a collaboration with dancers and choreographers at Northcote Town Hall.Emily is presently performing her solo Cello performance at festivals, selected venues and often works as session musician within various projects and ensembles, while composing music for film, shorts, T.V, and other multi-media.
