Music can be defined as sound, vibration and rhythmic connections with the soul. It is this ingenious understanding of music that allows Phil Davis to become music. This native of Atlanta does not shy from his talents and voices his thoughts and feelings though musical productions and adventures. It has always been Phil's mission to make quality music and promote the Atlanta Underground sound.
Phil’s journey has sparked his business savvy and thus PhD Productions was created in 1994. This producer, keyboardist and engineer has worked with local, regional and national artists all over the world. He contributes his musical monologues in his “conversation†solos to the likes of Herbie Hancock, George Duke and Joe Sample. He has had the pleasure of performing with Stanley Clarke, George Duke, Alex Bugnon, Boney James, Rachelle Ferrell, Sheila E., Prince, Teena Marie, The Pointer Sisters, Will Downing, Cassandra Wilson, Najee, Gerald Albright, Jonathan Butler, Michael McDonald, Philip Bailey, Marcus Miller, Dionne Farris, The Goodie MOB, Bone Crusher, and Erykah Badu. Phil has also performed with Jennifer Holiday, Regina Belle, Angela Bofill, the late George Howard for many years, Kathleen Bertrand, Melvin M. Miller and a host of others.
Some additional credits and accolades include Producing Alex Bugnon’s last two CD’s, “Free†and “Southern Livingâ€, producing 3 songs on Walter Beasley's upcoming CD, "Ready For Love", being the Musical Director for "That Comedy Show" on Turner South, song producer for "Star Search" on CBS for 2 years. He also wrote the title track on Boney James' “Body Language†and “Pure†as well as the writer & performer on the new Boney James & Rick Braun CD, "Shake It Up". Phil also served as the writer & producer of two tracks on the late George Howards' album, "Midnight Mood", writer of two tracks on Alex Bugnon's "As Promise", and the producer and performer of three tracks of Al Jarreau's latest CD "Tomorrow Today".
