Influences: "IN DRUMMING"... or in anything that has merrit, I'm inspired/affected by acts that display GREAT CHARACTER & HIGH LEVELS OF CONVICTION! There are so many examples of that, one just has to be LOOKING for it! While those in "High Profile" situations probably get the most attention, there are "everyday people" who can have an equal and most rewarding affect on "Me"! For me, and in DRUMMING, the inspiration primarily comes from, "WILL KENNEDY" by far! His TOTAL VIBE/CHARACTER (that that I know of...), has been my greatest inspiration. Then there's ROINE SANDGENBERG, my newest Friend and TOTAL MUSICAL MENTOR... the Kit, Bass, Percussion, WHATEVER!; Weckl, Vinnie, Gadd, Harvey. Dennis and Antonio Sanchez...Man, Sanchez's "spirit and vibe" have been blessin' me sooo much, ever since seeing the Matheny DVD with him and Richard Bona! Locally here in the ATL, it's "LIL' JOHN, KB, NICK, LaNORRIS and DEWEY" who are more of my flavor of expression - cats that have that "Spirit/Personal Vibe" that goes alone with having THE GIFTS and USING THEM WITH TASTE AND CLASS! *** "On BASS"... I'm reaching out to a lot of folk now'a days! I'm enjoying the Personal and Musical Spirit's on a continual basis with my brotha', THOMAS YOUNG, in and out of the Sanctuary... as well as KURT MITCHELL, ERICK FLORENCE, JOEL POWELL, JEFF SMITH - I've also had the pleasure of recording a cut w/ JON ROBERTS. Post recognition/mention has to go to TONY ("TC") CUNNINGHAM, [of whom] over a period of 2-3yrs. I thoroughly enjoyed his gifting exclusively and was greatly inspired by the "Musical Union" that existed between us during our time together as a functioning unit - we are STILL HITTIN' w/"MARVRAY...formatted!". The "CELEBRITY" catagory, would naturally include Marcus', Pattatucci, Bromberg, Nathan, Tom Kennedy, Richard Bona, Anthony Jackson, Bunny Brunell and of course JACO!******* "..."KEYBOARDS"... here in the ATL, my preferences are, AL SMITH & O.J. HARPER (a creative GENIUS),VAL PARKER ("DiRICULOUS is all I can say...), ROD KELLY & MARVIN WHEATLY (Madd Love for Marvyn!), OJEDA PENN, William Green,Phil Davis, Buzz Amato, John Porter! On the "celeb tip"... it's RUSSELL FERRANTE, George Duke, Herbie, Chick, Jeff Lorber, Joe Sample, Ahmad Jamal, Art Tatum and Oscar Peterson.******* "ON GUITARS"... Locally, it's BILL HART, JERMAIN RAND, PETER GRAHAM and DEREK SCOTT for sure! After them, comes Pat Metheny, Mike Stern, Alan Holdsworth....of course Wes and the usual long time greats! I could go on and on... as I'm influenced by great/inspirational performances in general, and it doesn't really matter where it comes from, as long as it "Touches the heart and soul"... and you don't need a "NAME or Status" to do that, now do ya'??? :-) ***************Now major Major MAJOR PROPS,,,******************* Have to go to MY DRUM CORPS BACKGROUND, and the many MANY hours of "Chopping"/gaining Hand Dexterity and Technique. If you know ANYTHING about Drum Corps at all, you'd be AHWED of the process and presentation. So THANK YOU, to the "DIAMONDS DRUM & BUGLE CORPS" (Pensacola, Fl); "THE BLUE RAIDERS " (Materie, La), and without a doubt, "THE COMMANDANTS OWN", U.S. MARINE DRUM & BUGLE CORPS, MARINE BARRACKS 8th & I, SE WASHINGTON, DC...Oooo RAH!!! Sempre Fi, to my Brother's FOR LIFE!! 'Laid many man hours out there on "Center Walk" and at "IWO" - wish I had a nickle for every "Phase 1 & 2" I've done! :-) And NOW... TO MY FAVORITE "DRUMLINE"...
