"The Falls present a half dozen beautifully executed acoustic-based variations on this debut EP. It's as much in the thoughtful arrangements and simple mix of instruments as the gorgeous melodies, shimmering harmonies, occasionally heartbreaking vocal delivery and the obvious joy the two songwriters exhibit in making this music, that makes it an almost perfect pop package." - Michael Smith, DRUM MEDIA
After the celebrated release of their debut EP “Long Time Coming” to a full house at The Vanguard (Sydney), The Falls are now working on their debut album due for completion in late 2007. Their exceptional live performances and honest song writing has captured the attention of music fans and industry alike, and they have built a strong fan base and reputation in the Sydney music scene. The band has been recently featured ‘live’ on FBi radio, in an editorial and EP review in Drum Media, and the opening track of the EP, “Please”, has been included on the latest Association of Independent Record Labels (AIR) Blues & Roots industry sampler. The Falls were also a featured artist on Myspace Music.
Two members of the band, Simon and Gerard, have also just completed a tour as part of Missy Higgins new band performing around Australia and on ROVE, Live at the Chapel, Live at the Basement and to a worldwide audience at Live Earth
The music from The Falls is dynamic and fresh yet remains timeless. Their lyrics are direct, often reflective, and always hopeful and the band seamlessly weaves a rich texture of male and female vocals with melodic guitars to create a sound that has been likened to Neil Finn, Augie March and Paul McCartney. In other words, honest songs that will remain with you long after the show.
The Falls have performed at many of Sydney’s premiere venues including The Basement, The Gaelic Club, The Hopetoun, The Annandale, The Heritage and The Sandringham and to full houses at The Vanguard. They have performed at many local music festivals and have played alongside the likes of Abby Dobson, Melanie Horsnell, Steve Balbi, Karl Broadie, Lior, Bernie Hayes, Brett Hunt and the Backsliders and have been met with warm reviews from these diverse audiences.
The band is songwriters and vocalists Simon Rudston-Brown and Melinda Kirwin, Dave Longo, Pat Savina, Mal Page and Gerard Masters.
"I wasn't sure what to expect when I first listened to The Falls CD because they were so humble about their talents. But no matter what my expectations I was very impressed. I heard a gorgeous languorous voice and the kind of well-crafted pop songs that sound like classics on first listen - beautiful stuff." - Amanda Easton, Host of 'AcousticA' 2SER 107.3fm
Anyone who saw their recent CD launch would realise The Falls write and perform some of the most beautiful pop songs you will ever hear ...anywhere. This is definitely one of my gig picks of the year. - Felix Kulakowski (The Vanguard)
