Pete Murray - YOU PICK ME UP
Pete Murray’s new single, You Pick Me Up, delivers a burst of energy that’s as optimistic as the title of the song.
You Pick Me Up is the first taste from Murray’s new album, Summer At Eureka, the first album he has produced himself.
’There was so much excitement when the song started coming together,’ Murray says. ’I was explaining this drum beat that I had in my head and when the bass came in it created this magic rhythm that had so much energy. Lyrically it’s interesting too, it’s quite broad and people will find their own meaning in it. People who have only heard my songs on the radio might think that I mostly do ballads but anyone who goes to my shows knows I do upbeat songs just as much. You Pick Me Up should change a few perceptions.’
The powerful rocker features Murray’s long-serving stage band and a brilliant contribution from one of Australia’s finest guitarists, Powderfinger’s Darren Middleton. Middleton and Murray handle all the guitar parts of Summer At Eureka, which was recorded in Murray’s new studio at his northern New South Wales hinterland home.
’Building my own studio was a priority for me, so we could record the music in an environment where everyone felt comfortable and no one had to worry about watching the clock as you can do in big studios. We had a fantastic time, the band came up to stay and we had some really talented musicians who live locally come by to help us out. One of the things I wanted to do as a producer was to capture that creative spark you feel as a song is being written, and that’s exactly what you hear on You Pick Me Up.’
