About Me

Blending urban lyrics & folk grooves with charm and a proudly Australian ruggedness, Kent Eastwood's ballad-styled musicianship & live performances have already been likened in style to artists including The Whitlams, Bruce Springsteen, David Gray & Elton John since releasing his debut ep 'relaxin at deans'.
The singer/songwriter recently supported Aria awarding winning blues & roots artist Mia Dyson and has brought his lively and impromptu shows to venues across Sydney and stretching from Melbourne up to Brisbane. A wider tour planned for 2008. Kent performed at "For Peats Sake" this new years eve after the recent cancellation of the Peats Ridge festival.
His forthcoming ten-track debut album is a matured wine version of the melody and nostalgia found in 'relaxin at deans'. Kent's lyrics are thought-provoking taking the listener on a journey through theirs and society's conscience, with a lasting sense of optimism.
The first single Differences from the new album was released in late 2007 and has been featured on Triple J and other stations nationally. It also appeared on this summers Sounds Like Cafe compilation CD (Foghorn Records) alongside other aussie artists including Paul Kelly & Abby Dobson. Capturing Kent's harmonic digestion of evolving life, it is an effervescent song about a return to a place where you have been before and finding the wisdom time has bestowed on you.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: myspace.com/kenteastwood
Band Members: Kent Eastwood - piano, vocals
Mal "Mr Friday Night" Page - drums
"The Reverend" Tom Tilley - bass
Influences: as far as piano players go I'd have to say:
Don Walker (from Cold Chisel), Paul Grabowski, Keith Jarret...
regarding music:
singers:
bono, bobby mcferrin, billy holiday, janis joplin... (they all make you wanna sing like there's no tommorrow...)
I think there are moments I remember distinctly that had a profound impact on me musically in a similar way to how people refer to great moments in history...
an example might be:
the first time I heard hans zimmer's "power of one" soundtrack, the first time I heard kind of blue,
every time I hear bobby mcferrin do anything,
the first time I heard the Koln concert on vinyl, hearing my nephew play random notes on the piano when he was 2, driving across the story bridge listening to bernards first solo record, driving across sydney harbour bridge listening to run dmc...
the list goes on...
Sounds Like: the music is constantly changing and developing however in the past has been likened to: ben folds and the whitlams, more recently a travelling journo penned the quote "you sound like the Australian David Gray"
Record Label: unsigned
Type of Label: Indie
