About Me

Joanne McGahon trained with English National Opera in 2003 and has had the privilege of receiving vocal coaching from Norman Welsby as well as participating in workshops with Mary King (Royal Academy of Music) and Carrie and David Grant.Joanne McGahon began singing as a pupil of St. Albans High School participating in competitions and performing on Radio 2. Joanne then went on to perform with Lyceum Theatre Company and Finchley and Friern Barnet Operatic Society in various musicals such as “Guys and Dolls”, “Godspell”, “Oliver”, "Kiss Me Kate" and "Me and My Girl" before joining Adoramus Choir and Orchestra in 2000. Since then Joanne has worked closely with the Conductor David Hooke who has mentored and encouraged her to develop her classical voice giving her the opportunity to perform items ranging from the sultry Bizet’s Carmen to Bach, Mozart and Schubert. Joanne has performed as soloist with Adoramus at Various concerts at Lea Valley, Southampton, St. Albans Arena and had the pleasure of touring Italy with Adoramus in 2003 and 2006. Highlights have been a very moving “O Holy Night” with the choir at St. Albans Cathedral, BBC Radio 4 live morning service and most recently “Love Songs from the Musicals” at the Alban Arena where Joanne performed a collection of songs. Joanne particularly enjoyed performing “Do Reh Mi” with the St. Albans girl’s choir reminiscent of her choir days with the same school.In 2006 Joanne won the “Voice of North London” and sang with the Classical Prom Company at Trent Park Open Air Concert, an experience she will never forget. Joanne has participated in various competitions winning second prize at the North London Festival of Music and Drama and has recorded children’s music for Mothercare and ELC. Other performances include "A Very Private Beach” by Julian Grant and directed by Mary King, Schubert Magnificat in C, “On London Fields” at the Hackney Empire, Mozart Coronation Mass and the Messiah according to Mozart.Joanne is a versatile singer and regularly performs lead vocals in an eleven piece Motown band at various charity and corporate events.
