About Me

(Singer/Songwriter/Composer/Guitarist/Pianist)
Dale is a seasoned musician with over 30 years of musical influences that include Jazz, Classical, Country and Rock performances. Dale began his music journey by playing Piano starting at the age of 4, moving to Guitar and Trumpet by age 10. "The guitar was my first love for me. I just had to know how to play it. My parents were very young when I was growing up in the early 70's, and my father was a huge Santana fan so I heard Carlos almost daily since I was about 2 years old. I love the sound you can make with a guitar better than any other instrument. It's filled with emotions. Singing is my other love in my life. I have always enjoyed singing because it is the best way to express how you feel in a song emotionally. I wanted to be Steve Perry when I was growing up. He is the voice, and my main influence vocally. The man has an incredibly blessed voice. Popular music would not be the same without his influence!"
While studying and learning to become a more accomplished musician in High School Dale worked privately with The Dallas Jazz Orchestra (DJO) founding member and Trumpeter Galen Jeter. The Dallas Jazz Orchestra (DJO) is a Jazz big band based in Dallas, Texas , founded by Thom Mason and Galen Jeter. Since its beginning in 1973, the DJO has produced numerous notable recordings, two of which were Grammy nominated, and has performed internationally in concerts and jazz festivals, such as the Montreaux Jazz Festival. Over the years, the orchestra has featured many of the most outstanding jazz players from the world class jazz program at the University of North Texas. Co-founder Galen Jeter is himself an alumnus of the University of North Texas One O'clock Lab Band, later going on to play trumpet for the Woody Herman Orchestra.
Dale obtained 7 prestigious Outstanding Musician awards from competitions held in and out of the state of Texas for Jazz and Classical Trumpet. Dale's talent as a young Jazz Trumpeter won him recognition from the World Class Jazz Trumpeter Maynard Ferguson in 1986 at the age of 16. "Maynard came to Richardson High School to play a concert, and our Jazz band was going to play a few numbers with him. One of the numbers was "Hey Jude", by The Beatles! Maynard wanted me out front with him to scream on Hey Jude and showcase my talent. Me a 16 year old kid with a legend and what an incredible experience to play with such a fine player and ledgend. He was a true gift to Jazz Trumpet and I will truly miss him."
During this time Dale also competed in Jazz competitions against the now known Grammy Award winning Trumpeter Roy Hargrove. Roy was discovered as a potential jazz talent when Wynton Marsalis visited his high school, Dallas's Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. "Roy is also from the Dallas area as well and we both lead our High School bands as lead trumpet players." Roy Hargrove won a Grammy Award in 1998 for the album Habana with his Afro-Cuban band, Crisol. Along with his catalog Roy can be found on John Mayers latest CD titled "Continuum."
While looking for a college to attend Dale had received recognition for reproducing the HUMMEL: Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra (made famous by Wynton Marsalis). Dale's excellent interpretation allowed him to receive a scholarship to one of the most well known music schools in the world, The University of North Texas to continue being schooled as a Jazz Trumpeter in the fall of 1988.
While attending the University as a Jazz trumpet player and Music Education major Dale found a new path and began creating, forming, and working with local musicians as a (Lead Singer and Guitarist) with many contemporary college Rock bands. "Rock music is a passion to me. I grew up playing Jazz and Classical music, though I always had a passion to sing and play Rock and Roll music. Growing up in the MTV area and seeing such great bands perform I think it was all a matter of time for me to follow that musical path it called to me more than any other!"
Dale continued working his craft after college with friends to form an original lineup called Drive-Thru. A very talented and diversified band that played the Dallas and Fort Worth music scene as a top act for many years. The band disbursed mid 1999 after which Dale continued songwriting and recording by working with Hal and Maggie Rozwell, (The Simpsons) by creating commercials for Internet Radio Stations and for Cable Television as well.
Dale continues today to write, record and produce as a solo artist and is collaborating and writing new material to contribute to other solo artists musical releases. Currently Dale is working with Arena Multimedia and Sonic Brand out of Los Angeles, California as the Executive Vice President of Music, Music Coordinator, Music Supervisor, Composer, and Songwriter for upcoming Movies and Television shows releases." "I work very close with a great friend of mine who is a world renown Singer, Composer, and I like to call her "my own little Genius!" She truly amazes me as an artist and as my very dear friend."
Dale is also a certified Luthier. "Many people ask me what that is?" A Luthier is someone that can build and repair Guitars, Basses, and Orchestral Instruments. "I enjoy building and repairing Guitars." " I spent a month living in Atlanta, Georgia learning the art form from Master Luthier John Marshall in 1996." Being a Luthier is creating and you know that when you are done with the work someone or you will be playing a hand made creation or a modification done by me and that is a rewarding feeling when you get up and play and it sounds just right."
"I am fortunate to be able to write and play music. It will always be the driving force in my life. Music is and always will be a blessing to me."
" To everyone who stops on my page and reads my bio , I thank you for your interest, support and hopeful friendship. Without all of you none of this would be possible".
