Alice didn't want to play the violin: that would have meant copying her sister. So when the form came round in year 2 at school, she ticked the box for 'clarinet'. Fortunately due to a clever ruse by the tooth fairy Alice was missing her two front teeth at the time, so was told to choose another instrument or she would be behind in class. Her sister later gave up the violin in favour of the saxophone, leaving Alice free of sisterly competition (at least until they both took Maths GCSE).
