One Man Band, plugged, looped & grinded

About Me

Self-taught bloke who started wanting to be like the rock stars he saw on the stage of the gigs he went with his older brother. First attempt was with a bagpipe but after a few headaches and neighbours complains, decided to change to the harmonica, more practical and versatile. After a cheesy experience with a school band of ..Celtic.. style and two contests, he went to study art to Santiago de Compostela. Going back to his college one misty night, wasted and tired, he discovered the two elder musicians of the Apocalypses sculptured with the great mute Organistrum on the western gate of the cathedral and by that door a busker who was playing the modern model of that big instrument, the hurdy-gurdy ..sanfona in Galiza. That was a remarkable experience for him, so he decided he needed something similar to express himself as he wanted. Meanwhile he learnt to play the blues harp with Marcos Coll, great teacher now living in Berlin gigging with Los Reyes del K.O. After two long years of waiting for the maker to get a traditional hurdy-gurdy and already living in Madrid, he got it. And that was how he started. Then he discovered Giles Chabenat in a workshop and the electro acoustic hurdy-gurdy. His desires were to get it one day. But he learnt to play in the English ground of Oxford pubs his traditional Galician stuff when he bumped into the Spoken Word with poet Steve Larkin and his band project. They met to get ready some songs with Su Jordan and Purple Dave Hart. The acoustic punk acid cabaret band Inflatable Buddha just started. After two years playing together and touring in South England, he moved back to Galicia. There he started to take lessons of hurdy-gurdy for the first time with maestro Oscar Fernandez Sanjurjo ..from Os Cempés- in the Conservatory of Traditional music in Lalín. At the same time he got an electro acoustic hurdy-gurdy, a Digitech looper, a pedal with various effects, a good amplifier, a mixing desk and a laptop. And this is the present.Still playing some gigs with Inflatable Buddha a year and currently with an acoustic duo with Estonian fiddler Pauliine Maasik. The rest is yet to come.
