About Me

From off the streets of Cleveland comes..me. I've been trying to find a place in music by playing the cajón in different types of music; it's originally a Peruvian instrument, later used in flamenco. Though I play all sorts of percrashin' (like in Finis Terrae), I prefer getting all the percussion sounds I can out of the box I sit on. I'm too lazy to schlep the whole drum kit around. In Bluegrass I'm trying to build on the rhythm marked by mandolin and bass. In Irish traditional or other Celtic music; a bodhran, in rock; a snare, kick and toms, in gypsy jazz/swing; kick drum and brushes or slap bass if it fits. For singer-songwriters like Garrett Wall, Danny Erker, or Fionn O´Lochlainn the cajón has been a handy compliment, filling out the sound, driving the music, but not overshadowing the artists' creative voice: the song itself.2006 has been good for working stuff out. I learned a ton from playing with Michael Daves, sitting in on performances with Tony Trischka and Jerry Douglas and Chris Thile. Not to mention how much I got from seven months of playing with the Jones Street Boys and staying all hours of the night at the Baggot Inn jam sessions.
