HYPERBOREA

About Me

"Hyperborea has slowly but steadily evolved into one of Finland's best performers of traditional folk music."

( Finnish Music Information Centre FIMIC )

NOTE! On the summer 2007 gigs Emilia Lajunen will be substituting for Paula. Thanks Emilia for your help!

Hyperborea is a skilled foursome of young Finnish folk musicians, who have played together all through the new millenium. They all have experience in a variety of styles and have played with several different bands in numerous productions and performances. The unique drive of their live gigs is familiar to audiences in Finland and several European countries. This summer they will tour in Estonia and Ireland, in addition to their domestic gigs.

The tunes in Hyperborea´s repertoire are gently hand-picked from the Finnish traditional archives or tastefully self-composed to match the style. They are mainly dancing-tunes, waltzes, polkas, polskas and schottisches, but these guys also sing an occasional song about love and longing, given the opportunity.

Hyperborea's first album Perinnearkku came out in 2004. In 2006 they were chosen as the official Band of the Year of Kaustinen Folk Music Festival , and their second CD Semmosta. was published.

The band was one of the 5 nominees for 2007 Etno-Emma award, given by International Federation of the Phonographic Industry Finland . We did not win as a group, but some of us did nevertheless - the award went to Antti's great duo with a fellow singer and harmonica player Eero Turkka, Turkka & Paalanen.

Perinnearkku and Semmosta are available at Cube Roots , CDroots and several other net stores, plus all good music stores around Finland.Among Hyperboreans' numerous other bands are Frigg , Hehkumo , Kiharakolmio and Turkka & Paalanen , who all have great CD's available for your enjoyment!
