"The edge of the flat earth is all too weak to carry. And there is nothing there"
This sentence comes from Sami Kukka's diary.
When control is lost or when the wind blows,
his short poetic lines turn into silent songs in Finnish.
Sami Kukka is a Finnish singer-songwriter and folk guitarist, best known for his minimalist and intimate songs.
In recent years Sami's work has increasingly come to the awareness of younger audiences.
Sami Kukka released his self-titled debut album in 1988.
At a time when music was supposed to be big and completely produced and album that featured nothing but one human voice and a guitar, slipped though without the attention that should have come its way.
2002 saw the release of "Vettä kuusta" ("Water From The Moon").
In contrast to the first album with its acoustic Nick Drake feel, the second featured a band, playing folk rock.
"Kuolema tekee tuloaan" ("Death On The Way" ) Sami’s new album returns to the style of his first.
On the album, which was recorded in a cottage by a lake, Sami both performs solo and with friends, who bow to nothing but necessity.
Members of today's Finnish folk family appearing on the album are Joose Keskitalo, a folk musician of the younger generation,who is gaining considerable attention in Finland and Paavoharju, an ambient esoteric group, who have gained an international reputation.
