About Me

I was born 11.9.1970 in Kitee, eastern Finland. In my childhood I sang a lot and started playing violoncello at the age of 7. When I was 13, I switched to harmonica and taught myself by listening Little Walter, Junior Wells and other black bluesharp heroes. After high school I spent 6 years in Russia (3 in Soviet Union) where I played with local musicians in the streets of Saint Petersbourg.
I started studying folk music in the Conservatory of Kokkola in 1996 and in 1998 I started in the Folk music department of Sibelius Academy, from where I graduated in January 2007. My main instruments are harmonica and singing, but I play also some very old folk instruments like jew's harp, jouhikko (Finnish bowed harp), igil (Tuvan bowed harp). I have a special passion towards Tuvan throatsinging, Finnish gypsy songs, Balkan music and of course early blues, where I started from.
I play in many different bands representing quite different musical genres (see Members). Well, it's too hard (and maybe unnecessary) to choose just one style I like best! I Hope that you'll enjoy my music!
