About Me

..
Angie Shaw's individual style creates a colourful blend of sounds which takes folk, blues, acoustic, country, rock and jazz influences into its wide spanning range.
Angie and her band have just launched her debut album, produced by Phil Snell at Limbo Creatives Studio, Yorks. and are in the process of planning a whole new line-up of performances for Autumn 2008. 'The Other Side of Blue' is already proving a big hit both locally and with myspace friends, and is available to buy online here and now by download. If you'd like to purchase a copy of the album now, it is only £10 + £1 postage. Please click on the button below.
REVIEWS OF THE ALBUM
RELAXED throughout, even ‘chilled’ at times, the surprising thing about this quietly sophisticated album is that by the final track you feel like you know Angie Shaw very well. From sultry opener The Other Side of Blue to tender closer Boy, this talented singer-songwriter and her backing group sound mature and mellow rather than angsty or passionate. Whether downbeat folk-blues confessional (You Were Loving Me), upbeat reggae-inflections (Sea of Sky), laidback jazz (Stars) or good, old- fashioned country (Sweet Little Dreamer), the mainly acoustic instrumentation is perfectly weighted and played, the pitter-pat of drums and congas, the bass padding like a cat, taking solid melodies on an ever-snaking path. It’s the perfect platform for Shaw’s breathy, versatile vocals and reflective lyrics which, if you listen closely, are admirably frank about her past and present, her lives and loves and where they have led her. Despite the responsibilities and restrictions of motherhood, Shaw has lost neither her passion nor spirituality (the ethereal Under the Same Sun could almost be psych-folk heroine Vashti Bunyan). Gentle of spirit, clear of mind, honest of heart, everything on The Other Side of Blue, it seems, comes second to the expression of soul, even the tune. But what a beautiful soul."
