This myspace site was created on September 30 2007 by two admirers of the music of Sally Oldfield, who both believe it deserves much wider recognition.
Wider recognition for its own sake because, quite simply, it’s magnificent. But also because at this time in the world, and in the course of music history, there is a special need now for music which soothes and inspires, rather than music which merely satisfies commercial demands and arouses selfish sentiment. Sally Oldfield’s music has been doing this since 1968 but still she is known only to a relatively small number of people.
On opposite sides of the planet, these two myspace friends discovered their shared admiration for Sally Oldfield’s music by accident while chatting on skype. Sally is the sister of Mike and Terry Oldfield and during the course of the last forty years she has written and recorded music which has taken melody to exquisite heights, while at the same time appealing to the best in the human heart.
Sally Oldfield is unquestionably one of the most gifted and committed musicians of our time. This myspace site, which is not authorized by Sally, will find its own way and it may offer music, photos, stories, video. We don’t know yet but there’s a bit to be getting on with here. We hope it will lead to wider recognition of a great writer, musician and singer which we think is long overdue. Our Waterbearer has turned into a Flaming star. Let's celebrate!
