Inspired by Finnish traditional polkas the band initially started playing together at the Sibelius Academy Folk Music Department in 2004. During the years their repertoire has spread to include all sorts of traditional folk music as well as beautiful songs mostly written by the band’s musicians. Nowadays the repertoire consists of their own compositions and traditional folk music from all over Scandinavia.
In 2009 Polka Chicks is the Band of the Year of Kaustinen Folk Music Festival. In addition to their performances in Finland Polka Chicks have performed in the USA, Denmark and Russia.
Polka Chicks are going to record their long awaited debut album during spring 2009. The album is due to be released in June 2009 by Ääniä Records.
All the three musicians of the group work with various projects which takes them on tours all over Europe.
